Spring has finally arrived, and I know we are all looking forward to the wonderful sunshine! The beginning of
spring also means that Earth Month, Earth Week, and Earth Day are here! The month of April is Earth Month,
April 21-27 is Earth Week, and April 22nd is Earth Day. There are many ways that you can get involved to
protect and conserve our environment. If you and your friends and family are looking for some great green
events across the City in which you can participate, be sure to check out these great local environmental

Royal Canadian Air Cadets E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser

If you have electronics that you would like to recycle, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 789 Lt. R. Hampton Gray,
Vc Squadron will be holding an E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser where you may bring these items for recycling.

20-Minute Makeover in Ward 11

Join the thousands of participants across Canada, from April 15 – 27, who will volunteer for 20 minutes to pick
up litter around their workplace, school or community. Organize a group of your co-workers, family and friends,
and find a space in our amazing Ward 11 community that is in need of a clean-up. There are many places in
Streetsville and around Ward 11 that could use your help! Be sure to register your clean-up and help clean our

For those who have registered, garbage and recycling bags, gloves and safety tip sheets will be available at
River Grove, Meadowvale, and Frank McKechnie community centres and community centres across the City,

Clothing and Electronic Waste Collection

The City of Mississauga, Partners in Project Green, the Region of Peel, and Diabetes Canada are organizing a
collection drive, from April 15 – 27, in support of Earth Days. Residents can drop off unwanted electronics
and used clothing, at no charge, to the Civic Centre, Central Library or any of the City’s community centres.
The following items will be collected:

• Clothing-based items and textiles, including: clothing, hats, bags, belts, ties, footwear, bedding, pillows,
linens, curtains, sleeping bags and yarn. All clothing items will be donated to Diabetes Canada.
• Electronic waste, including: laptops, desktop computers, monitors, keyboards/mice, cell phones,
electronic accessories, audio and video equipment, network equipment, video game consoles, wires,
scanners, cable receivers, portable digital music players, televisions, batteries, fax machines, medical
devices, printers, tonner and ink cartridges. Please note that CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes will not be
accepted. All electronic items will be collected and recycled by Ontario Electronic Stewardship.

Thanks to community support for these collection events, over 12 tonnes of materials were collected and
diverted from landfills in 2017-2018!

One Million Trees Planting

On Saturday, April 27th from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. join the City of Mississauga, Credit Valley Conservation,
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, and Conservation Halton at the annual One Million Trees Earth
Day celebration. This year, native trees and shrubs will be planted, along with other hands-on environmental
activities at four Mississauga parks. This year’s tree planting events include:

• Brickyard Park - Ward 7, hosted by City of Mississauga

• Willowvale Fields - Ward 6, hosted by Credit Valley Conservation
• Stonewood Park - Ward 10, hosted by Conservation Halton
• Fleetwood Park - Ward 3, hosted by Toronto and Region Conservation

Trees planted will support the City’s One Million Trees Mississauga campaign, a 20-year program to
encourage residents, schools, community groups and businesses to join the City’s tree planting efforts on both
public and private lands in Mississauga. Since the program launch six years ago, over 300,000 trees and
shrubs have been planted with the help of volunteers and partners. For more information and to register for a
