Step Involved in Development of a P & ID

1. Locate area North and Plant North and its Deviation

2. Locate the maximum occurring Wind direction
3. Divide the entire area in to two, 50% for future expansion & 50% for present facility
4. Divide Entire area in to grids of 40 to 20 Mtrs
5. Locate the process area at the center
6. Locate the main station / generator Shed near to the fence to avoid high tension wires inside
the plant
7. Locate the substation, laboratory, control room close to the process unit within 30 meters
8. Locate the flare unit in down wind direction, at a distance of 90 meters from the process unit to
the flare equipment & 150 meters for the flare burning point.
9. The flare unit must have a 60 mtrs of sterile radius
10. Locate the main gate facing the road & secondary gate considering raw material storage.
11. Locate the Effluent treatment unit in down wind direction and at 90 meters distance from
process units.
12. Locate the utility area closer to the process unit within 30 meters distance
13. Locate the storage unit from process unit as below;
a. Class A petroleum 60 m distance
b. Class B Petroleum 45 m distance
c. Class C Petroleum 30 m distance
14. Locate the steam generator unit in upwind direction and at 45 m distance from process unit
15. Locate the fire fighting unit at 60 m distance from process unit with a straight road approach to
the process and storage unit
16. Locate administrator block, Canteen, parking space close to the main gate
17. Locate scrap yard at any free space of the plant
18. Locate work shop area at any free space of the plant
19. Locate the ware house close to the secondary gate
20. Free space left out will be used for main road.
