Introduction

Teaching writing is very important for students because they will find easy and
comfortable to think critically, and writing is one type of language skills students
must master. Writing also a way to express our heart’s content. Because students
write almost everyday, especially in class every teacher must ask students to write
important points of the learning content. So writing can not be kept away from
students because by writing students can always remember learning.
Teaching writing is very important for every student to learn to be a good writer
in English, learning to write also supports students to master phrase, paragraphs
and vocabulary, and improve students' ability to catch the lesson, that's why
writing skills are very important and play a big role, can determine overall student
competence.
Teaching Writing like any other language activity, is a skill. Each skill will
only be obtained through practice. Practicing systematically, continuously, and
fully disciplined is a recipe that is always recommended by practitioners to be
able or skilled at writing. Of course, stock to practice is not just a will, but there
are also other provisions that need to be had. Other provisions are knowledge,
concepts, principles, and procedures that must be taken in writing activities. So,
there are two things needed to achieve writing skills, namely knowledge of
writing and practice to write because writing is an integrated language skill, which
is intended to produce something called writing. writing is a skill that is
productive, meaning writing skills is a skill that produces that is writing. Write in
general, can be interpreted as an activity to deliver a message (communication) by
using written language as a tool or medium. As a language skill, writing is an
activity complex because the writer is required to be able to compile and organize
it in the formulation of various written languages. Behind the complexity, writing
contains many benefits for the mental, intellectual and social development of
students. Through paragraph writing activities students can communicating ideas /
experiences and experiences, students can also enhance and expand his knowledge
through his writings.
Writing activities are identified with the use of graphic symbols , which
are combination of letters associated with the sound of spoken language . But
more clearly writing activities not only produce graphic symbol. These symbols
need to be arranged in accordance with the appropriate provisions, both in
arranging word, arranging word in sentence, arranging sentence into paragraphs,
or arranging paragraphs into text. There are two writing activities that can be done
in elementary school, namely learning to write and write to learn (Brewster and
Ellis, 2002:117). The second term is indeed much the same, but it means far
different. Learning to write is an activity in which students are more required to
control the outside from of writing such as writing, spelling, punctuation, and
proper use of word and grammar. While in writing for learning, students not only
arrange the outer shape of writing but also must pay attention to the meaning or
change of the writing. This type of learning and learning applied applies in the
high class because students need higher learning in order to be more creative in
writing. The position English in Indonesia SD is as a foreign language or better
known as English foreign language (EFL). Related of this, it is not surprising if
there is an assumption that learning to write in English is seen difficult. Students
need to pour their thought ideas into language others that mother tongue in a
different way. Even so, but believe that every children can write. Give students
the opportunity to do the need and development of students. The series of models
that have been designed are expected to be a tool for students express their ideas
when the writing process is taking place. Teaching how to write effectively is one
of the most important life-long skill educators impart to their students. When
teaching writing, educators must be sure to select resources and support materials
that not only aid them in teaching how to write , but that will also be the most
effective in helping their students learn to write. Time4Writing.Com offers
educators a number of resources that assist in teaching writing. Teacher will find
free writing resources on grading, writing conventions, and the use of graphic
organizers. There are also valuable articles and activities on other related writing
topics, like sentence writing, paragraph writing, and essay writing. There articles
provide information and guidance, while the activities motivate students to
practice their skill with printable worksheets, quizzes, video lessons, and
interactive games. Students love learning and practicing skills using technology,
which makes online courses a great way to keep them interested and motivated to
learn to write. For educators needing K-5 writing and grammar curriculum,
writing city provides ready to use digital lesson, instructional videos, and an
online student writing platform to facilitate blended learning. The award winning
elementary writing curriculum was created by teachers, for teachers and is
common core aligned. Teaching writing is one important aspect in teaching the
application of language. Writing is an activity to channel ideas in written from.
The writing paradigm is often seen as difficult for most people. This is because
writing is an amalgamation of creativity and a strong will from within the writer.
Teaching writing in English can be more frightening for developing counties that
make English as a foreign language. Because it not only combines elements f
creativity and will, but also elements of linguistics that have been learned. Jeremy
Harmer said that, a teacher must be able to teach students to write in English. This
matter of concern is whether writing is writing for learning or writing for writing.
Writer is the result of someone’s activity placing something in a dimension of
space that is still empty (Resmini et all. 2006: 287). Where as in the Oxford
Dictionary “Writing is produce something in written form so that people can read,
perform use it .” If this writing is ready by someone else, it will give a certain
message to people who read it. The message can take the form of an idea,
information, will, desire, or feelings of someone. This is in line with the opinion
of poteet (Mulyono,1999:224) that writing is a visual depiction of thoughts,
feelings or ideas, using the symbols of researches language systems of
communication or not taking. Seeing the definitions from some of the sources
above, it can be concluded that writing is essentially a knowledge, which is
knowing what is in the mind and then poured into written from. Knowledge here
is not only the form of word or phrases but can also be in the form of pictures, a
combination of ideas and images, as well as everything contained in the mind. A
person’s knowledge will be clearly seen after it is poured into oral and written
form. “just as you may not know what you are going to say until you say it , so
you may not know what you are going to write until you write it.” (Carol
Cox,1990:309). The statement confirms that writing becomes the path of
knowledge.obtained from writing, between others: (1) increasing intelligence, (2)
developing initiative and creativity, (3) encouragement, and (4) willpower and
ability gathering information. in the school or home environment. This lack of
opportunity makes students have difficulty in writing using English. Writing as
process is oriented towards work in progress and the development of new skills,
rather than merely evaluative tasks, the classroom practices vary from each other;
these often depend much the students’ experiences and skills when planning and
adjusting their writing program. Writing is an efficient learning process which is
unutilized to communicate information, clarify thinking and learn new concept
and information. Ulquhart and Mcler (2005) states “writing is a recursive process,
students should learn strategies for invention and discovery”. It is generally
agreed that writing is the most difficult skill to master for foreign language
learners. According to fauziati (2010:196) success in language teaching, in
relation to both students learning and teacher efficiency, can often be traced to the
ability of teachers to manage the classroom. Success in language teaching depends
less on materials, techniques, and linguistic analysis, and more on what gives on
inside and between people in the classroom. From those problem, now the
teachers are demanded to create some strategies which can explore the student’s
writing competence. Writing is not a job that is easy and can be owned by anyone
without work and practice. Writing skills are obtained through intensive and
ongoing training in accordance with the cognitive level of students. Writing is the
main capital to study at the next level. Knowledge and writing skills will be the
basis for learning, enhancing and developing abilities students in advanced
classes. If the basis is good, strong then the results of its development will also be
good too. Conversely, if the basis is lacking, then the results its development will
also not be maximized. Although it has been realized that mastery of written
language is needed in everyday life, in reality teaching writing is lacking
attention. writing lessons that used to be a lesson and a basic exercise are now
lacking get the attention of students and teachers alike.
