5. Poverty reduction (debate)

Mr Khanbhai introduced his report, drawn up on behalf of Committee on Development and Cooperation,
on communications from the Commission to the Council and the European Parliament:
 Accelerated action targeted at major communicable diseases within the context of poverty reduction
(COM(2000) 585  C5-0014/2001  2001/2006(COS)), and
 Programme for Action: Accelerated action on HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in the context of
poverty reduction (COM(2001) 96  C5-0112/2001  2001/2006(COS)) (A5-0263/2001).

Mrs Napoletano referred to the remarks she had made that morning at the opening of the sitting (Item 2
above) and indicated that she hoped for a reply from the President at the end of voting time (the President
replied that she had indeed examined the problem raised and, with regard to the reference she had made
to a letter addressed to her by Mr Tajani, she added that she would only be able to take a position on the
letter once she had seen the French translation; she also added that she would give this matter all the
attention necessary).
