The Precious Blood of Jesus Novena

Those who pray with humility and who meditate on

My Passion, shall one day participate in the glory of
My Divine wounds. Their members will receive from
them a resplendent beauty and glory. The more you
shall have contemplated my painful wounds on this
Earth, the higher shall be your contemplation of them
glorious in Heaven. The soul, who, during life has
honored and studied the wounds of our Lord, Jesus
Christ, and has offered them to the Eternal Father for
the souls in purgatory, will be accompanied at the
moment of death by the Holy Virgin and the angels;
and our Lord on the cross, all brilliant in glory, will
receive and will crown her. ~ Promises of Our Lord to
Sister Mary Martha
The Precious Blood of Jesus Novena
Introductory Prayer for the Novena

Jesus, Man of Sorrows, accept the homage I wish to

render Your Most Precious Blood during this novena,
as a token of my sincerest appreciation for the sorrows
and sufferings you have willingly borne to atone for
my many sins and to prove how much You love me. I
adore you as my God, Who willed to become man in
order to save me from eternal death. I thank You as
the best friend I have, who laid down Your life as proof
of the greatest love possible. I ask pardon for having
so little thought of you, the Man of Sorrows, and for
having caused your sorrows and sufferings by the
many sins I have committed. I pray to you, good
Jesus, for all the graces I need to know you, to love you
and to serve you faithfully until death, and to save my
soul. Give me a fervent devotion to Your Sacred
Passion by which I was redeemed, venerating
especially Your Precious Blood. Teach me how to unite
the sorrows and sufferings of my life with your own.
Through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood and
the prayers of Your Mother of Sorrows, I ask for this
special favor.
(Mention your request here).

With childlike trust I abandon myself to Your Holy

Will concerning my request. If it should not please
you to grant what I ask, I beg you give me that which
you know will be of greater benefit to my soul. Grant
me the grace to know You, to love you, and to be truly
sorry that I have offended you.

I ask this grace by Your Precious Blood:

By that Precious Blood which poured from your

Sacred Body and which trickled down to the ground in
the Garden of Olives. By that Precious Blood which
poured forth from Your Sacred Body during the
scourging. By that Precious Blood which covered Your
Sacred Face when you were crowned with thorns. By
that Precious Blood which burst from your hands and
feet on Calvary. By that Precious Blood which came
forth from Your Sacred Heart after Your death. By
that Precious Blood which is still offered daily on our
altars at Holy Mass. By that Precious Blood which we
drink in Holy Communion and of which you said, "He
who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life
eternal." Amen.

This Litany in honor of Jesus in His Most Precious

Blood was drawn up by the Sacred Congregation of
Rites and promulgated by Pope St. John XXIII on
February 24, 1960. The devotion to Jesus in His most
Precious Blood was first popularized by Saint Gaspar
(1786-1837 - feast December 28) who founded the
Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood. A partial
indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite this
litany.
Chaplet of the Precious Blood

History:

The Chaplet of the Precious Blood, also known as the

Precious Blood Rosary, is a meditation on the generous
love of Jesus, who shed his blood for us. This devotion
consists of seven mysteries in which we meditate on
the seven principal shedding of the Most precious
Blood of Jesus. The chaplet itself consists of 33 beads
(six sets of five beads each and three on the drop), a
rosary center and a Precious Blood medal.

The Chaplet was composed in 1809 by Francesco

Albertini and officially approved in the same year.
Albertini, who founded the Archconfraternity of the
Precious Blood, was the mentor and spiritual director
of Saint Gaspar, founder of the Missionaries of the
Precious Blood.
Saint Gaspar encouraged the Missionaries to pray this
chaplet with the people every morning. It is an
excellent way of heightening our awareness of God's
presence in difficult and painful situations. It can help
us connect our own suffering, the suffering of those we
love, and the suffering of our enemies, with the
suffering of Christ. Many people who like to pray the
rosary every day pray the Precious Blood Rosary on
Fridays, the day when we traditionally meditate on the
Passion.

Prayer Instructions:

The Our Father without the Hail Mary is said five

times after each mystery except the last, when it is said
three times – in all, thirty three times in honor of the
thirty-three years of Our Lord’s life on earth.
