Work Description

As a Junior Technician working in a Marine Technical environment onboard a SA NAVY

vessel I am responsible for maintenance, faultfinding and defect repairs on a daily basis
making sure that they are done in an efficient and professional manner. I’m also
responsible for compiling the planned maintenance schedule for the machinery in the
machinery compartments as well as writing information of machinery in logbooks and
then capturing all the machinery information on the computer.
Working onboard a war ship you are also required to be part of fire fighting and fire
prevention and is thus done on a daily basis.
Being in the SA NAVY has made me accustomed to long hours of work and being away
from home for indefinite times. Experience has taught me that being able to work as a
team and to communicate with colleges, makes the working environment and difficult
tasks easier to deal with. I have 2 Junior Technical Ratings working underneath my
supervision which I have to make sure are properly trained in the necessary skills
needed to work onboard and with the machinery.
In my various roles, I have worked as part of a team of which I’m a keen team player
because I believe that working together, each one can do more, lastly I am confident
that given any task, I will do my utmost to perform to the best of my ability, thus proving
to be an asset to your team.
