Miscellaneous

The PSE Group proposed that:

— § 43 be placed after § 25 if their amendment 15 was adopted,
— amendment 2 be taken as a new paragraph 9a rather than an insertion in § 3,
— amendment 4 be added to the text of the existing paragraph 25 rather than being inserted as a new
paragraph.

The PPE-DE Group proposed the following oral amendment to paragraph 38:

38. ‘Considers that Member States have long and diverse traditions in consumer protection; notes
that the (deletion) call from part of the financial services industry is for minimum harmonisation,
whereas certain practitioners, notably the banking industry, advocate targeted harmonisation in order
to achieve a true level playing field; therefore, urges the Commission to organise a discussion about the
fundamental structure of the EU financial services market, bearing in mind consumer and practitioner
interests and European global competitiveness;’

functioning of European financial markets;’
Mrs Van den Burg (rapporteur) moved an oral amendment to §37 to add ‘requests that the Commission
provides a comprehensive study of retail financial services with a special emphasis on banking services in
the various Member States’.
Mrs Van den Burg (rapporteur) moved an oral amendment to amendment 15 to replace ‘regulated competi-
tion’ by ‘fair competition’.
