Ephesians:Pursing the Supernatural Pt. 3

Ephesians 1:13-14
13In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed
in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance
until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

The spirit is our guarantor/ co-signer of the promises that God has for our lives

5 Areas that we will cover

● Where does the Spirit come from?
● What does the Spirit do for us?
● How do we obtain the Spirit?
● What does the Spirit look like in the lives of believers?
● How do we use the Spirit in our day to day lives?

The Spirit gives us power

Acts 1:8
8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

The Spirit produces fruit

Galatians 5:22-26
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ
Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us
also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one
another.

To have the Holy Spirit is to possess all characteristics of verses 22-23.It is quite possible to
crucify our flesh with the Holy Spirit. Do not let your guard down and assume that you have it all
together.

Fruit, not gifts, should be the basis of the Christian character.

Matthew 7:15-20
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous
wolves. 16You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or
figs from thistles? 17So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad
fruit. 18A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every
tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus you will recognize
them by their fruits.

Ephesians:Pursing the Supernatural Pt. 3

It is possible to fake gifts but fruit is unmistakable.

Psalm 1
1Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of
sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law
he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in
its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1:1-6 explains that we are like trees that bear fruit. We often confuse the Holy Spirit with
praise.

The Spirit comes bearing gifts

1 Corinthians 12:1-11
1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2You know that
when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I
want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus is accursed!"
and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit. 4Now there are varieties of gifts,
but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are
varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each
is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8For to one is given through the
Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the
same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish
between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually
as he wills.
