Grant Application for the Genocide Intervention Network/Save Darfur Coalition

Sudan Global Day of Action


I. Background
The Genocide Intervention Network/Save Darfur Coalition has a limited pool of funds that will be offered to
partner organizations and local activists in the form of grants to help support South Sudan and Darfur-focused
advocacy to engage activists ahead of the upcoming referendum in January 2011. Grants are intended to
support events held the week of December 7-14, and that complement and further the work of the
organization, with the final goal of ensuring peace in all of Sudan.

Grant Recipient Requirements
Grant recipients and applications must meet each of the following characteristics:
• Must be a legally registered 501 (c) 3 organization in the United States, or have fiscal sponsorship
from such an organization
• Must agree to complete a post event report detailing expenditures, events success, copies of
receipts, and other information
• Cannot support any specific political agenda within Sudan, Sudanese political parties or
movements involved in the crisis in Darfur
• Must have a high likelihood of executing the proposal as planned and have potential of attracting
media attention
• All grants must be for Darfur and South Sudan events the week of December 7-14, and
preference will be given for those held on December 5 – 12
• Grantees must be able to demonstrate ability to complete the goals of the submission either
through a planning document or from prior success of the organization
• Funds not expended on the designated use of the grant must be returned to Genocide Intervention
Network/Save Darfur Coalition
Grant Guidelines
Use the information below to guide your grant application and event/program planning:

• Genocide Intervention Network/Save Darfur Coalition will consider applications for between $100
and $1000. We anticipate that most grants given will be in the $500-$1000 range
• Allowable expenses include but are not limited to: posters and fliers to advertise the event or hand out
during the event, staff or intern time, photocopying, sign up sheets, clipboards, etc
• Expenses that are not allowable include events that do not focus on Darfur or Sudan.
• Grant requests will focus on events that raise awareness of the upcoming referenda in Sudan and/or
the situation in Darfur
• Priority will be given to programs and events that involve a diverse cross section of the community
• No proposal will be considered without the inclusion of a budget
• Preference will be given to projects that can demonstrate additional funding sources
• You must incorporate the unifying symbol and petition into your event, and send us photos and/or
video after the event

accepted on a rolling basis.

these circumstances in your grant application.
