TALENTUEUEX à la SUCCÈS!

NES Ratnam College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai recently ( 31st August & 1st
September) held a cultural festival organized by the Humanities & Social Science Departments
of the college. It is a reputed college in the suburbs of Mumbai, for its emphasis on discipline
and excellent academic results. The college has been accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC in
2004, 2011 and 2017. Since its inception, the college has progressively evolved to make a mark
for itself as one of the premier institutes of higher learning in Mumbai. The college has been
conferred with the ‘Best College Award’ by The University of Mumbai. The college is currently
headed by Dr. Mary Vimochana, Ph.D, In-Charge Principal and Head, Department of
Economics.

The annual event, also known as ‘TALENTUEUEX’, was organized by the Department of
Political Science. It was a two day event, held on 31st August and 1st September, 2018. The event
was diligently organized. There was a soul to it. A soul that was vibrant, contagious and
exuberant.

The theme of the event was inspired by the zeitgeist of current times; Digitization, Sustainability
& Inclusiveness: A PATHWAY TO A RESURGENT INDIA. The theme, as mentioned, was
inspired by current events and also, by the students of NES Ratnam College. The event was
inspired by the youth, the ones who will someday be scientists, doctors, engineers and leaders.
The events were attended by a number of academics, all brilliant in their own fields. The College
held an inter-college Research Paper Convention on 31st August, 2018 which was attended by
students from 22 colleges. The convention was held in the college premises and judged by Dr
Manjari Vaidya, HOD of the English Dept at Amity University and Dr Rohidas Munde,
Assistant Professor of Civics and Politics at Mumbai University. The convention covered a wide
range of topics from Water sustainability to Internal and External Migration.
There were also 3 intra-collegiate workshops held on 31st August, 2018 which were in harmony
with the theme of the event. The first workshop was the Tray Bottle Gardening workshop where
students were taught how to recycle/ reuse old bottles made of plastic and use them as flower
beds and decorative plants at home. Bottle Gardening is a useful skill that helps the environment
as it reuses old materials and gives students a chance to come up with unique ideas to better the
environment.
The second workshop held was the Eco-friendly Ganpati making workshop which as you might
have guessed was again keeping in harmony with the sustainability theme and also as Ganesh
Chaturthi was right around the corner, got students more interested. The materials used for this
event were all provided by the college and were eco-friendly ( Shaadu Matti). The workshop was
attended by many students and supervised by Shweta Belose, Professor in the Dept of Botany.
A Digital Marketing workshop was also held on the 31st August, 2018 for students. The event
was attended by 40 students. As youngsters spend most of their time on the internet, mostly on
social media platforms, the workshop held would show students how to be productive with the
time they spend every day on their phones, laptops etc. It was to teach them how to use
technology to their benefit rather than only wasting time on memes.
DAY TWO, of the event was once again followed by an intra-collegiate event where students
showed off their entrepreneurial skills. Students put up stalls in groups and competed against
each other by selling homemade, food and non-food items, at their respective stalls. The stall
competition, KSHITIJ: Igniting Entrepreneurial Minds was judged by Mukesh Chavan, Vice
Principal of Yeshwant Rao Sawant Junior College, Bhandup & Mrs. Thulasi Jez, Vice Principal,
NES Junior College, Bhandup.
The 2 day event was attended by a number of delegates from colleges across Mumbai and was
also sponsored by Oziva Health Products, Andheri, Kothari Jewellers, Bhandup. Ato Z Books &
Stationery, Bhandup, Impression Nutrition Centre, Mulund,Horizon Realty, Vikhroli,Shraddha
Corporate Advisory Services,Ghatkopar, Kwality Sales Corporation, Bhandup, I.P. Verma,

did the teachers. In the end though, the event was made successful by the overwhelming and
enthusiastic response it received from its attendees.
