LESSON PLAN IN INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

a. Define computer.

b. Appreciate the Importance of characteristics of computer.

c. Make a role play showing the impact of computer in society.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Introduction to computing

References: Essentials of Computers 3rd Edition ( Book)

Material: Laptop, Projector,

Methods: Discovery, Power Point Presentation, Oral Recitation,

III. PROCEDURE:

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES:
A. Drill

Instruction: Encircle the words that are related in computer.

B. Review

- Ask the student to give a summary about the lesson in the previous meeting.

D. Motivation

 Show the students various pictures output from computer using power
point presentation.

Versatility - ability to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities

Reliability - the quality of being trustworthy or of performing consistently well

Diligence - careful and persistent work or effort

 Storage - the action or method of storing something for future use.

B. PRESENTATION
a. Activities
 Instruction: Group the students into 5 and let them define computer
using spider web according to their prior knowledge. (5 min.)
b. Analysis
 Discussion using power point with interaction of students.

Computers are everywhere and everyone is using them! Computers are in our cars, our kitchens,
our living rooms, our stores and, most importantly, in our workplaces. They are used to
communicate, to play, and to make everyday tasks easier (once you know how to use them!).
The ability to use a computer will enhance your ability to not only keep in touch with friends and
family but it will also increase your ability to find and keep a job.

A computer is an electronic device that accepts data (input), manipulates the data (process),
produces information based on the manipulation (output) and stores the results (storage).

CHARACTERISTIC OF COMPUTERS

Speed Computers can process data much faster than we can. It takes only few seconds
for calculations that we take hours to complete.
Accuracy Computers don’t get sick (without help!), they are not.
The degree of accuracy of computer is very high and every calculation is
performed with the same accuracy.
Diligence A computer is free from tiredness, lack of concentration, fatigue. It can be work
for hours without creating error.
Versatility The capacity to perform completely different kind of work.
Power of Remembering Computer has the power of storing any amount of information or
data.
No IQ (Intelligence Quotient ) Computer is a machine and it cannot do any work without
the instruction of the user.
No Feelings It does not have feelings or emotions, taste, knowledge and experience.
Storage, The computer has built in memory where it can store a large amount of data.
Uses of Computer

Education

Computers have become essential for teaching other subjects as well.

Classrooms and libraries are efficiently utilizing computers to make the education much more
interesting.
Computer aided education and computer based training packages are making learning much more
interactive.

Communication

Electronic Mail is a facility supported by computers to send messages from one place to another.
Email facilitates sending the messages from one person to different persons by the aid of computer and
telephone line. Here each person/user has mail box which is accessed via terminals or workstations within
the system by entering an account number and a password.

Business and industries

These tools enable business owners to handle tasks such as accounting, inventory management,
marketing, and payroll.

The Social Impact of Computer in Our Society

Computers have made our social lives much easier. Earlier, there were not much sources of
connecting to our friends and family living afar. Letters were the most used medium back then. But, ever
since computers came into existence, people are able to connect to their family and friends through social
media and different mobile applications. Our loved ones are just a message away now, no matter how far
from us they might be physically. Not only messaging, computers have made it possible for us to actually
see each other and converse through video calls.

Beneficial or Positive Impact of Computer in our Society

 Any professional individual like doctors, engineers, businessmen etc. undergo a change in their
style or working pattern after they get the knowledge of computer.
 An individual becomes more competent to take decisions due to the computer because all the
information required to take the decision is provided by the computer on time. As a result, any
individuals or institutions get success very fast.
 The person working at the managerial level becomes less dependent on low level staff like clerks
and accountants. Their accessibility to the information increases tremendously. This improves
their working patters and efficiency, which benefit the organization and ultimately affects the
society positively.
 The students also find the computers very useful and significant for helping them crack difficult
topics and problems.

 For writers, computers are a huge help for writing and storing their work. It has replaced pens and
papers. Easy editing, corrections, illustrations etc. all are done through a few clicks.

Harmful or Negative Impact of Computer in Our Society

 Due to any reasons, if the data stored in the computer is lost, the person responsible for handling
the computer will have to tolerate a lot.
 People do not use their mind for common arithmetic, which gradually results in loss of their
numerical ability.
 Today, any person who does not have the knowledge of computer is considered the second class
citizens.
 People have fear that growing children may lose their common sense abilities like numerical
ability due to total dependence on computers.
 Due to the computerization workload for the employees reduces many times. As a result, many
organizations may require removing some of its employees. It produces the dissatisfaction and
lack of security among the employees. Due to this, employees do not corporate the organization.
As a result, the output can be disastrous.
  Computers work as stress boosters in the human lives.
 It has lessened the proficiency of elder workers who are not familiar with the technologies and
workers with lack of English skills.
 According to a research, computers shoot up the rates of cardiac diseases.
 It affects the visions of people working on it and children gaming on it on a regular basis.
 It spreads harmful radiations as well.

c. Abstraction:
 Ask the students (choose students randomly) questions about the
discussion. (add some questions to ask from your discussion and
provide possible answers.)

2. How you're lives be different with and without computers?
3. Why is it important to learn how to use computer?
4. Do you think we can do anything without computer?
5. If you were the computer, what would be greatest contribution in this generation?

d. Application:
 Using the same group give them 10 minutes to prepare for role playing
about what computer can do in their every life.
Provide one scenario each group.
(each group allot 3 minutes presentation).
