REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL


OVERVIEW: ABOUT DELTA INSTITUTE

strive to create a Midwest region with a healthy environment, robust economy, and vibrant
communities. Delta creates programs that show how policies, ideas, and resources can be
harnessed for a more sustainable and resilient region. We take a systems view on how businesses,
communities, and government and are impacted by the environment and economy, and create
comprehensive solutions that pull these pieces together. Delta is proud to have a multidisciplinary
team, and we strive to attract a diversity of experience, skillsets, and perspectives to enable us to
challenge assumptions and create new approaches to long-standing problems.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Delta Institute is requesting proposals in order to identify a professional consultant qualified to
plan, execute, and deliver a new/modernized design for our organizational website located at
www.delta-institute.org. A core deliverable is ensuring that Delta Institute staff maintain complete
editing and access of all website content, hosting, and domains beyond the project scope timeline.

PROJECT GOALS
The goal of Delta Institute’s website design and development project is to establish a strong market
presence through an informative, engaging, and intuitive website that will increase visibility, value,
and brand recognition of the organization and its many projects operating throughout the Midwest.
Key audiences include:
• Current and prospective donors, both individual and organizational.
• Practitioners, including municipalities and their leaders, nonprofit partners, universities and
colleges, farmers and food producers.
• General public, with an emphasis on those living or working in the Midwest.

The end-user experience should be one that is easy to navigate via intuitively and straightforward
menu options that explore the many issue areas and projects that Delta Institute works within. Our
revised website should:
• Attract prospective and engage current donors, clearly making a case for support.
• Provide an array of tools and resources for practitioners to implement environmental and
economic processes in their municipality, organization, or household.
• Position Delta as a regional and national thought leader and a trusted collaborator and
partner for both new and current stakeholders.
• Adhere to all nonprofit best practices, particularly regarding transparency and reporting
needs for the IRS, Guidestar, Charity Navigator, etc.

Data presented on the website will include:


• Downloadable toolkits and capacity building resources.
• Media: Embedded video; dynamic graphics; and links to third-party program sites.
• Plug-ins: Embedded donation form; PayPal account link; and Newsletter sign up.
Back-end website requirements include:
• Migrating current website files and housing new files on a secure server that Delta staff have
full control, own, and have access to.
• Security certification.
• Tracking, including Google Analytics, Leadfeeder, and download captures.

SPECIFIC SERVICES SOUGHT


• Review of Delta’s current website to identify migration and account management needs.
• Recommendation of web system that is easily managed and maintained by Delta staff.
• Website structure and framing.
o Please note that Delta staff will create specific webpages and sizable content
creation utilizing the back-end set-up provided by the web developer—our goal
is for a professional web developer to provide the framework necessary for us to
continue creating dynamic content and updates so that our website remains fresh
and reflective of the organization.
• Assistance with successful integration of plug-ins, analytics, and SEO.
• Back-up of all web files.
• Level-appropriate training for Delta’s Development and Communications team to
successfully maintain the website moving forward.
• Initial set-up of routine maintenance, with future maintenance efforts to be purchased on
an as-needed basis.

BRAND GUIDANCE
Delta will provide our brand guidance to inform the style and content of the website.

PROJECT TEAM
• Director of Development and Communications will be the main project contact.
• Senior Specialist, Development, will be secondary contact regarding work scope.
• CEO will provide review and approval.

ALLOWABLE COST
Up to a maximum of $20,000; please note that should discounted services be offered, as a 501c3
nonprofit we will provide visibility and promotion to our network of donors and stakeholders of
your services.

TIMELINE FOR PROJECT COMPLETITION


Bids are due by 1/27/20. Work will begin by 2/3/20 for a go-live date of 3/30/20.
