Civil War Walks

When/Where: 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 3 p.m. Thursdays presented by the Coastal Discovery
Museum.

Info: The Forts of Port Royal Tour visit’s the site of Fort Walker and the Steam Cannon to learn the
importance of the island during the Civil War. At the “Civil War Era” talk, participants view historic
maps, photographs and artifact to learn how Hilton Head Island was home to thousands of Union
soldiers during the Civil War.

What the heck?

When/Where: 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 22 at Coastal Discovery Museum, Hilton Head Island

Info: "What the Heck?" is an archaeological artifact identification day hosted by the Hilton Head
Archaeological Society. There will be expert analysis provided by Dr. Jon Leader, state archaeologist
for South Carolina and Dr. Eric Poplin. The event will also include a silent auction. Refreshments

FEBRUARY 26TH: Lowcountry Heritage Breeds Festival

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 26 at Coastal Discovery Museum, Hilton Head Island

Info: The museum will host breeders of heritage breed farm animals that were historically used in
the Lowcountry, in partnership with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. There will be
programs and guided walks offered to "Meet the Animals." Visitors will also have the chance to make
their own "Tacky Hat" for the Marsh Tacky Run the next day.

Marsh Tacky Run

Info: Amiri Farris, professor of art at the University of South Carolina Beaufort will present an exhibit
with a Gullah-Geechee theme. His painting combine a blend of vivid colors and layered textures that
evoke images of the Sea Island culture. Original poetry by the artist will complement the artwork.

Imagination Hour

When/Where: From 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays at The Sandbox

Info: Story time followed by arts and crafts.Each month will feature a fun and unique theme and is
geared for children age 5 and under; older siblings and guests are welcome as well. Classes are
designed for parents and caregivers to interact and assist their child with each project and they are
encouraged to stay and play in the museum following the program. Join The Sandbox each week and
have fun learning about a variety of subject matters ranging from nature, recycling, nursery rhymes,

Cheer auditions

Info: The Hilton Head Extreme Cheer group has announced openings for athletes ages 7 to 10 to

Education Center and Aquarium, 30 Ocean Science Circle on Skidaway Island

Info: Program is for children between ages 1 and 4 with such activities as arts and crafts, story
time, games and animals. There is a maximum of 15 participants.

Cost: $6 per child for non-member, $4 per child for members; adults are free with children
