Project Name: Naughty by Nature? A look into ADHD

Main Area pathway: Short Documentary

Rationale:

I personally believe that I have developed massively in terms of

personal skills such as initiative, communication and problem-
solving skills. I also believe that I have developed massively with
my creative media knowledge and skills such as camera work,
editing, lighting and sound. An example of using self-initiative
was in my final major project in year one on I and Ben’s
expository documentary (Money Over Passion?). I was given a
large amount of constructive feedback on my final edit. I took
this into my own hands on deciding which of this feedback
would benefit my final edits look and atmosphere to viewers. I
used decision. Making skills here to determine what would suit
it best and I was successful in this as it boosted my final grade
from merit/distinction to distinction. During this production I
also developed my editing skills massively as I had to create this
documentary to match the codes and conventions of an
expository genre documentary. I did this by using my research
on codes and conventions whilst also watching other
productions within this genre to see how they follow as well as
their structure. I was successful in this as my our final
documentary reflected the codes and conventions correctly,
therefore me displaying my knowledge of this genre.

Project Concept:

My production that I desire to make is a 10-20 minute short

documentary based around ADHD, the main topics in this production
will be medication and the outlook it has from society especially
education. I have several aims of my production my main aim is to
communicate to my target audience that ADHD is not a negative trait
to have because if handled healthily it can be a massive positive to
your life style. I want to convey to my teenage target audience (16-
24 years old) that medication is not always the answer to your issues
in this case ADHD as this can have life changing long term effects
with positive short term effects. I want to communicate to my older
target audience, main aim being parents (25-40 years old) that their
misbehaving child may not be acting this way deliberately as they
may have this disorder. I want to inform and educate this audience
on the symptoms, how this begins e.g. genes and I want them to
understand how to deal with their child’s disorder healthily. I will
need one or two cameras dependant on how many angles I want for
interviews. I will also need lighting for these interviews in order to
convey mood to viewers.

Evaluation:

I will record and evaluate my work through several effective methods that
will benefit the development of my ideas, problem solving skills and my
overall outcome of my final production. I will do this by making sure I
complete my weekly blogs every week to a professional standard in a lot of
detail and analysing my decision making as I go along throughout this unit.
This will allow me to adapt my project and understanding of my production
as well as issues that may occur. I will also make sure when editing to take a
large amount of screen shots throughout this process in order to analyse
and communicate my understanding of the specialism as well as my
decision making. I will also use notes on my phone to record all work that I
need to complete as well as the dates and times that this is in for. I will
prove that I have done this by displaying this in my weekly blogs, I will
explain this is in the what I need to complete outside of lessons in order to
catch up. This will be effective as it means I can keep up with work as well as
this allowing me not to miss any work by accident. I will also make sure to
take photos during the production process e.g. filming. These photos will
show setting up equipment with proof of me doing this as well as
interviewee’s on set. These photos will be analysed in my weekly blogs to
show the filming process underway as well as problems that might arise
during this.

Project Action Plan and Time Table:

I will ensure to keep on task with my project by using my

detailed production schedule to allow me to understand what I
need to carry out each day in order to stay on task with the
work. This production schedule will be updated regularly with
any unfortunate setbacks or new plans of research, planning or
production. I will be ambitious with my production by setting
myself realised goals and expectations to meet each week as
this will allow my production to develop into its final product. I
will use notes on my phone to note down what I need to
complete at the end of the day this will be recorded in my
weekly blogs and explained as to why this did not go the way I
wished.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard
Reference Format):

In order for my production to be both reliable and trustworthy.

I will need to ensure that I gain sources of both primary and
secondary research in order to have loads of different
perspectives of my documentaries topic. I will use research
sources such as books, documentary films, articles and YouTube
videos in order to have a large amount of different secondary
research. I will use books such as medical guides and parenting
guides as this will allow me to know I have reliable and benifical
information for my production.

I will use primary research such as survey monkeys for aspects

of my research such as topic and target audience in order to
gain first hand perspectives on constroversal sub topics for my
topic and furthermore my target audience on whether they
believe that my productions idea is appealing to them this will
be sent to my peers as well as posted on social media on sites
such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Mums net. I will
ensure to gain focus groups with my target audience at suitable
locations that convey my topic in order to gain first hand
reliable information that will benefit my productions
development.
I will make sure to update my bibliography regually in order to
make sure I don’t forget about any sources because if this work
is submitted and I have not refrenced it this means I would
have plagerised it and therefore I would fail this final major
project.
