Southern Oregon Leads the First Fall NAIA
Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings
CLEVELAND – Southern Oregon leads the first set of Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall
standings. The Raiders have accumulated 169 total points after taking home the men’s
cross country title and finishing seventh in women’s cross country.
Malone (Ohio) trails the Raiders by just four points after finishing third at the men’s cross
country championship and fourth at the women’s cross country championship. The Pioneers
have 165 total points.
Cal State San Marcos is in third with 154 total points after tallying a first place finish in
women’s cross country and finishing 12th in men’s cross country.
Black Hills State (S.D.) currently occupies the fourth spot after earning 123 points. The
Yellow Jackets finished third in women’s cross country and took home 18th place in men’s
cross country.
The British Columbia (Can.) Thunderbirds are in fifth place after finishing eighth in men’s
cross country and 14th at the women’s cross country championship. They have 114 total
points.
Two of the six fall NAIA championships have been completed with the following institutions
capturing titles: men’s cross country – Southern Oregon; women’s cross country – Cal State
San Marcos.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National
Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are
awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports -- six women’s and six men’s.
The next NAIA standings will be released Thursday, December 16.
