Advantages
1- Remote communication
The most obvious advantage of the media is that they facilitate remote communication.
Thanks to electronic devices (phones, computers, tablets, among others) it is possible to talk in
real time with people who are not in the same country.
Before there were electronic devices, remote communication was done through postal mail.
A lot of time could pass between the issuance of the letter and the reception of an answer, which
made the communication not particularly effective.
There are different types of platforms that make this type of communication possible. Social
networks like Facebook and Twitter and applications like WhatsApp are some examples of these.
3- Distance study
Previously, distance courses could be taken by correspondence. However, the process could be
tedious due to slow mail.
At present, information and communication technologies have favored distance study. In this
way, students can stay at home while learning through various platforms, such as social
networks.
4- Globalization
The media have increased the globalization process . Distance communication has not only
made countries closer culturally, but has also allowed the world economy to be unified in some
way.
Once they have been developed, the media are economical for its users.
For example, email and social networks have no additional costs in addition to paying for the
internet service. In any case, sending an email from Mexico to China is much cheaper than
making a phone call.
7- Advertising
The media is a way of promoting services and products. In this sense, they constitute an
advantage in the area of advertising and marketing.
Many media outlets are massive, such as radio, television and the newspaper. In this
sense, they allow the dissemination of information quickly and effectively, reaching
a large part of the population.
Disadvantages
The media depend directly on the technology. This means that if technology collapses
the media will do the same.
Because the technology is not perfect, it often fails. For example, social media
platforms may fail when data transfer is excessive.
2- Create dependency
Human beings can develop dependence on the media. The cell phone is one of the
technological devices in communication that is more addictive.
Among the advantages of the media, the importance of their mass character was
mentioned. This characteristic may be negative if the information transmitted is not
true.
Why might the people in this picture meet each other to lose time with their
cellphones?
I think that they did not get together to waste time, but to be able to talk, but
technology is everywhere and it is inevitable for young people who do not know how
to overcome addiction to the media, this leads young people to spend a long time on
your cell phone as we can see in the image.
How you can apologize if you were the person who is interrupting a meeting
using the cellphone?
I really would not know how to apologize, but the first thing I would do when I realized
that I am interrupting the meeting would be to turn off my cell phone and pay
attention to the people who are talking.
What would you like to say to a friend who is using his/her cellphone during
an important meeting?
The first thing you would do is tell him to turn off his cell phone and then explain what
the consequences of excessive cell phone use are, and also let him know what today's
society is like thanks to a simple cell phone that contains many things that can harm
us.
