You are on page 1of 6

In the picture I can see four young people, all of them are setting on the sofa, two men

and two women and all of them have cell phones. We will start on the left, there is a

young man who wears a white t-shirt and a blue jacket, he also has a brown jean, then

a young woman who has a floral design shirt and a black shorts, she keeps her legs

crossed and with one of his hands he grabs his hair while with the other hand he holds

his cell phone. He is also followed by a young man, in this case this young man has a

white shirt and a lead jean and is very focused on his cell phone. And the last girl on the

right is wearing a green dress and black booties, apart from that she also has blonde

hair, and is almost in the same position compared to the other girl. The four young

people are too focused on their cell phone. Apparently they are watching videos or

images, I think that.

In addition, in front of them there is a table and on the table there are several cups of

coffee, a glass of honey and a glass of water.

Arguments:

Advantages

1- Remote communication

The most obvious advantage of the media is that they facilitate remote communication.

Thanks to electronic devices (phones, computers, tablets, among others) it is possible to talk in
real time with people who are not in the same country.

2- They are immediate

Before there were electronic devices, remote communication was done through postal mail.

A lot of time could pass between the issuance of the letter and the reception of an answer, which
made the communication not particularly effective.

However, thanks to the advances in communication today, remote interaction can be

immediate.

There are different types of platforms that make this type of communication possible. Social
networks like Facebook and Twitter and applications like WhatsApp are some examples of these.

3- Distance study

Previously, distance courses could be taken by correspondence. However, the process could be
tedious due to slow mail.

At present, information and communication technologies have favored distance study. In this
way, students can stay at home while learning through various platforms, such as social
networks.

4- Globalization
The media have increased the globalization process . Distance communication has not only
made countries closer culturally, but has also allowed the world economy to be unified in some
way.

5- They are cheap

Once they have been developed, the media are economical for its users.

For example, email and social networks have no additional costs in addition to paying for the
internet service. In any case, sending an email from Mexico to China is much cheaper than
making a phone call.

7- Advertising

The media is a way of promoting services and products. In this sense, they constitute an
advantage in the area of advertising and marketing.

8- Mass dissemination of information

Many media outlets are massive, such as radio, television and the newspaper. In this
sense, they allow the dissemination of information quickly and effectively, reaching
a large part of the population.

Disadvantages

Although they offer multiple benefits, the media have a number of

disadvantages. Below are some of these.

1- They depend on technology

The media depend directly on the technology. This means that if technology collapses
the media will do the same.

Because the technology is not perfect, it often fails. For example, social media
platforms may fail when data transfer is excessive.
2- Create dependency

Human beings can develop dependence on the media. The cell phone is one of the
technological devices in communication that is more addictive.

3- They are not always reliable

Among the advantages of the media, the importance of their mass character was
mentioned. This characteristic may be negative if the information transmitted is not
true.

In social networks, non-verifiable information or from unreliable sources is often

disseminated, which can lead to problems.
Questions:

 Why might the people in this picture meet each other to lose time with their
cellphones?
I think that they did not get together to waste time, but to be able to talk, but
technology is everywhere and it is inevitable for young people who do not know how
to overcome addiction to the media, this leads young people to spend a long time on
your cell phone as we can see in the image.

 Have you ever been in this situation?

I have never been in this situation, perhaps because of the simple fact that I do not
have a cell phone, but I have always thought that the cell phone is like a virus that
affects our brain as it does with other people who are already victims of the media,
especially social networks like Facebook.

 How you can apologize if you were the person who is interrupting a meeting
using the cellphone?
I really would not know how to apologize, but the first thing I would do when I realized
that I am interrupting the meeting would be to turn off my cell phone and pay
attention to the people who are talking.

 What would you like to say to a friend who is using his/her cellphone during
an important meeting?
The first thing you would do is tell him to turn off his cell phone and then explain what
the consequences of excessive cell phone use are, and also let him know what today's
society is like thanks to a simple cell phone that contains many things that can harm
us.

 Do you think is the internet really important for teenagers nowadays?

I think the internet is very important, for example if you are a student the internet is a
method of help so you can get information in large quantities so you can study, but it
will also depend on the use that each of the people Give this means of help. For
teenagers who want to become great people and professionals, the internet can be a
great help. But there are young people who do not know how to use it properly and
use it to waste their time, either playing online or watching videos that do not help the
development of knowledge.

 Do teens have a better communication nowadays? What’s your opinion?

People have come to lose the habit of maintaining communication with a person
face to face, this because today there is a method that facilitates conversation
between people, no matter if they are in a very distant place. All this because
today there are the means of communication

 Is the internet responsible for the increase of the obesity?

Parents have to look at the content and time that their children spend when they surf
the Internet in order to avoid problems that could appear after consumption, such as
additions, obesity, unpleasant situations.
