Differences and Implications for Future Studies”

1. INTRODUCTION

Eliseo Fernández Barrionuevo and Antonio Baena Extremera ,the authors of "Motivation in

Physical Education and Foreign Language Learning in CLIL Teaching: Gender Differences

and Implications for Future Studies" paper state that The implementation of CLIL

methodology in the last few years has allowed for some research to be made on its

integration effects in Andalucía (Spain) due that one study found that the students of the

bilingual branches acquire a higher linguistic competence level, compared to non-CLIL

pupils, without finding any differences in the communication skills and/or the key

competences. Therefore, this would help to offer scientific improve within didactic in this

subjects not only about the gender of the students but also in the implementation of an

approach of the bilingual programmers.

2.1 THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is an approach where students learn a

subject, in this case PE ,and a second language at the same time. A PE course, for example,

can be taught to students in English and they will not only learn about PE and health , but
they will also gain relevant vocabulary and language skills the main problem is they must

also structure classes carefully so that the students understand the content of the lesson, as

well as the language through which the information is being conveyed ,but this approach it

would be beneficial only for boys or girls within the process of learning in these subjects

due that the role these subjects play in the different educational systems varies according to

their organizational requirements, the status of the subject or the approach of the bilingual

syllabus ,for example : A study by McCall (2011) that took place in the UK, where the

integrated teaching of football and French was used to motivate male students but what

about female who doesn't like playing football ? For that reason the authors made this paper

to clarify this issue.

2.1 THE RESEARCH QUESTION

What are the differences between boys and girls in how they perceive FLL (Foreign

Language Learning) and PE (Physical Education) within content and Language Integrated

Learning approach?

Authors
Antonio Baena Extremera is a teacher of the Faculty of Sport Sciences

Murcia, Spain who had written 9 books about Physical education and

sport.

This is an explanatory paper where the authors show the differences

between girls and boys in Physical Education is perceived in content and Summary

Language Integrated Learning contexts based on a student analysis where

they found significant differences by sex in Intrinsic Motivation-

Knowledge .

This paper was develop with clarity and readability due that they explain

accurately the two important point that it was "Integrated teaching of

physical education and a foreign language and Motivation in CL IL, PE

and FL" thought data analyses and descriptive statistics

Critical
A total of 150 students of bilingual Physical Education in English from Comment

one secondary education school of Andalusian that show a real sample

that deal with authenticity and also this paper can be reproducible due

that the two subjects are imparted in other part of the world like EE.UU

or even in Latin America.

Secondary Education schools of Andalusia offer at least two non-

linguistic subjects should be taught using Spanish the learning of content

Relevance
being the basic element over language proficiency, so for me , it actually
a good method to aware students the importance to learn another

language as something natural instead of taking as an obligation.

2.5 THE METHOD

The researchers used the quantitive method based on the positivism because they need to be

objective and their instruments will be applied in a large scale. The technique that the

researcher used was: surveying, questioning a wide array of people in order to obtain

information. The instrument that was used in the research was: questionnaires and the

analysis was done by: statistics.

2.6 THE METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN

The researchers used the quantitive method using questionnaires for each gender (male and

female), this method is the best for measuring, ranking, categorizing, identifying patterns

and making generalization. They collected the data using the instrument: questionnaires,

the students were informed of the purpose of the study and their rights as participants, the

questionnaires were given to groups of more than 40 students, each participant has at least

40 minutes to complete the full questionnaire, then they analyzed all the data, evaluating

question by question and they has the statistics to has the main results to answer they

research question.
2.7 SUMMARY

The use of questionnaires is one of the best instruments to find the answer to the main

question because the different questions were designed with the purpose of gathering

information about both gender (male and female) and they can be analyzed with an

statistical form; also according to the main objectives that they made at the beginning of the

investigation they will have contributions and implications of future investigations into the

school organizational, pedagogical and fields. In summary the method and the instruments

that they used to their investigation is the most adequate to have a good and productive

research. In a conclusion the methodological design is well adopted to find the answer to

their research.
