I am sure you have noticed that this paper is late. We normally mail the
last week of the month. Also the first article is always by my husband. I have put
mine on the first page this time to pay honor to him.

Christmas day our son Steve took it upon himself to cook his daddy’s
favorite meal. Prime rib, creamed potatoes, creamed spinach and creamed corn.
It was a meal fit for a king. The family had just sat down, and Jerry had filled his
plate, ready to take his first bite, when his defibrillator went off. An hour later it
went off again and soon, we were at the hospital. He never got a bite of that meal.
After two days in the hospital they made the decision to turn off his defibrillator.
He had 24 attacks in the emergency room. When we came home, he was having
one to three attacks an hour for the first three days. Today he is having one to
three a day. His pacemaker is still working, and they talked about turning it off
last week. His heart is definitely in the last stage. They never expected him to
last this long. Daily we look for the Lord to call him home.

Many people just think that he is in the bed dying. Not so with this man.
As long as he has strength he will be on his feet. The doctor says he is “Texas
Tough”. He taught Sunday School until three weeks ago. We go to church, al-
though we may have to leave before it is over. He is going to do what he can do
until he dies. In between attacks, he vacuums my floors (I have a small vacuum).
If you know him, you know he is a pester, and will die being a pester. The nurses
