BIG EAST Player of the Week
KEMBA WALKER, Connecticut, G, Jr.
Walker led Connecticut to the EA Sports Maui
Invitational title, helping the Huskies to a 3-0 week.
Connecticut had wins over Wichita State, No. 2/2 Michigan State
and No. 8/9 Kentucky in a three-day span to win the tournament.
Walker averaged 30 ppg in the three days, scoring a total of 90
for the tournament and coming just three points shy of the
tournament record. The junior also averaged 4.0 assists and 2.7
steals per game.

Connecticut, which is ranked No. 7 in this week’s Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today poll, looks
to remain unbeaten as the Huskies take on UMBC at the
XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Connecticut is 3-0 against
America East Conference opponents this season, and head
coach Jim Calhoun is 36-2 at Connecticut against current
members of that conference.
Villanova, ranked No. 12 in both polls this week, plays
its first game in the annual Philadelphia Big Five circuit
tonight as the Wildcats face Saint Joseph’s at The Pavilion. Villanova is 43-24 all-time against the Hawks. The
Wildcats have won 21 of their last 23 games against in
the Philadelphia Big Five series.

Coleman helped the Friars to a 1-1 record in the
Cancun Challenge. He averaged 13.5 points, 4.0
rebounds and 1.5 assists in two games for PC.
Coleman had 12 points and four rebounds in a
loss to La Salle, while notched 15 points and four more rebounds
in a win over Wyoming. The freshman is averaging 10.8 ppg for
the season.

BIG EAST Honor Roll
Dion Dixon, Cincinnati, G, Jr.
Scored a career-high 20 points in a 68-34 win over Dayton on
7-of-12 shooting. Also had nine points and three assists in a win
over Savannah State.
Austin Freeman, Georgetown, G, Sr.
Tied a school record with seven 3-pointers in an 87-72 win over
Penn. Finished with 32 points on 7-of-9 shooting from three.
Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame, F, Sr.
Named MVP of the Old Spice Classic, averaging 14.0 points and 8.7
rebounds while leading the Irish to the tournament title.
Justin Brownlee, St. John’s, F, Sr.
MVP of the Great Alaska Shootout, leading St. John’s to the
tournament title. He averaged 17.7 points and 4.3 rebounds while
shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
Rick Jackson, Syracuse, C, Sr.
Had double-doubles in three games, including in the semifinals
and finals of the Legends Classic. Named MVP of the tournament,
leading SU to the Legends Classic crown.

Forward Tony Freeland scored a careerhigh 25 points with a game-high nine
rebounds in the win against Northern
Illinois, snapping a four-game losing
streak.

Guard Preston Knowles scored a seasonhigh 18 points and freshman forward
Gorgui Dieng added 15 points in the
victory over Florida International.

Redshirt freshman Sean Kilpatrick
scored a career-high 26 points, which
included 5-of-5 from 3-point range, in
the victory over Wright State. UC led
62-42 with 7:44 to play.
Five Bearcat players reached double
figures. Forwards Rashad Bishop and
Yancy Gates each had 10 points and
seven boards.
The Bearcats are off to their best start
since 2004-05 which is also the last
season they appeared in NCAA Tournament.

Guard Brandon Young is the first DePaul
freshman since Lance Williams in the
1998-99 season to start his career with
six straight games in double figures.
Young leads the team in scoring at
13.8 ppg.

Louisville opened the game with a 13-0
run and was not seriously challenged.
The Cardinals are 5-0 for the second
time in the last 14 seasons, also winning
their first five contests in 2005-06.
Louisville is 101-7 under head coach Rick
Pitino when scoring 80 or more points.

Guard Ben Hansbrough scored 19 of
his 24 points in the second half in the
win over Indiana State. All five starters
reached double figures.
The 8-0 start in the best in coach Mike
Brey’s 11 seasons and the best at the
school since the 1973-74 club began
12-0.
The Fighting Irish are off until Dec. 8
when they meet Kentucky in the SECBIG EAST Invitational at Freedom Hall
in Louisville.

Forward Devin Hill did not play against
Northern Illinois and is out four to six
weeks with a stress fracture in his left
foot.

The Cardinals are in the middle of a
school record-tying streak of 10 straight
home games.

The Bearcats leave Cincinnati for the
first time this season when they play at
Toledo on Saturday.

Guard Kemba Walker scored 30 points
-- his fourth 30-point game this season
-- in the win over New Hampshire.
Freshman guard Shabazz Napier added
11 points.
Walker, who leads the nation in scoring
with a 30.0 average, needs two more
points to reach 1,000 for his career.
The New Hampshire game was played
in Gampel Pavilion, where the Huskies
have won 97 straight before the month
of January.
UConn will be home for its next four
games before opening league play at
Pittsburgh on Dec. 27.

Guard Austin Freeman pumped in 31
points and guard Jason Clark made three
3-pointers in the overtime win against
No. 9/8 Missouri. The game was played
in Kansas City, Mo.
Clark finished with 26 points. Guard
Chris Wright helped force overtime with
a 3-pointer at the end of regulation. He
had 21 points for the game.
The Hoyas led by as many as 18 points
in the first half when they shot 71.4
percent from the floor.
Freeman scored 32 points in GU’s
previous game, a win over UNCAsheville.

Marquette defeated Milwaukee 75-72,
moving the Golden Eagles to 38-0 alltime versus the Panthers.
Marquette’s 38-0 record against Milwaukee is the second-longest streak
in Division I, topped only by Syracuse’s
44-0 mark against Colgate.
Guard Darius Johnson-Odom scored a
career-high 29 points in the win over
Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles will have seven days
between games before hosting Longwood on Saturday.

Center Gary McGhee posted 10 points
and 10 rebounds in the game’s first 15
minutes to help beat Duquesne. He
finished with 12 points and 13 boards
while tying a school record with seven
blocked shots.
Guard Ashton Gibbs scored a game-high
22 points. Forward Nasir Robinson
added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The contest was the first college game
played at the Consol Energy Center.
Pitt went into the game leading the
nation with a 16.2 rebound margin and
outrebounded the Dukes 56-35.
The Panthers play their next two games
at home before returning to the Consol
Energy Center to meet Tennessee in the
SEC-BIG EAST Invitational on Dec. 11.

blocked shots in the win over Northeastern. Guard Vincent Council added
15 points, eight boards and six assists.

Wednesday’s win over Wagner gave the
Red Storm a five-game winning streak.

Forward Hugh Robertson scored 14
points and Ron Anderson, Jr. added 10
points, 13 rebounds and four blocked
shots in the overtime win over VCU.
Both players are transfers playing in
their first seasons with the Bulls.

Center Bilal Dixon contributed 14 points,
12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

St. John’s shot a season-low 36.1 percent
from the floor, but forced a season-high
21 turnovers and made 15 steals.

Villanova lost its first game of the season to No. 24/24 Tennessee in the final
of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison
Square Garden.
Corey Fisher, Corey Stokes and Maalik
Wayns were held to 7-of-30 shooting
from the field in the game. The three
had combined for 61 points in the
semifinal win over UCLA.

D.J. Kennedy, who has started 99 of a
possible 103 career games, came off the
bench and led the team in scoring with
20 points. Justin Brownlee also played a
reserve role and added 17 points. Both
players finished with six rebounds.

Another transfer, sophomore guard
Jawanza Poland, helped with 12 points
and six assists.

The Red Storm resume play on Tuesday
against St. Bonaventure at Carnesecca
Arena.

The Bulls play at Florida Atlantic Saturday.

Forward Rick Jackson posted his sixth
double-double of the season with 17
points and 13 rebounds in the win over
Cornell.

Guard Casey Mitchell scored a gamehigh 27 points in the win over American.
He shot 8-of-11 from floor and 10-of-11
free throws.

It was SU’s 33rd straight victory over
the Big Red.

Forward Kevin Jones added 16 points
and five rebounds.

Freshman guard Dion Waiters added
11 points.

Mitchell, who averaged 3.7 points last
season, leads the team with a 22.3 scoring mark. Over the last four games, he
is averaging 27.5 ppg.

Brooks, who is averaging 19.4 ppg, or
Council (16.9) has led PC in scoring in
every game this year.
The Friars host Rhode Island on Saturday. Last season, PC lost to the Rams
86-82 in Kingston.

Freshman forward Gilvydas Biruta
scored a collegiate-high 20 points and
pulled down seven rebounds in the victory over NJIT. It was his third straight
game in double figures and the first
time this season than a Scarlet Knight
reached the 20-point mark.
Forward Jonathan Mitchell finished with
13 points and 11 rebounds.
In all six games this season, RU has
committed fewer turnovers than its
opponent.
Rutgers hosts Marist on Tuesday before
meeting Auburn in the SEC-BIG EAST
Invitational on Dec. 11 in Pittsburgh.

Guard Jordan Theodore came off the
bench to score 11 points to lead Seton
Hall in the win against Saint Peter’s.
Ten Seton Hall players scored points
against the Peacocks. The Pirates have
won 23 of their last 24 against Saint
Peter’s.
The Pirates played their third game
without guard Jeremy Hazell who broke
a bone in his wrist during the Alabama
win last Friday. He will be out for at
least four weeks.
Seton Hall faces Arkansas in the SEC/
BIG EAST Invitational Dec. 8. The game
will be played at Freedom Hall in Louisville.

USF made five of its six field goal attempts in overtime.

The Orange host NC State Saturday before playing Michigan State Tuesday in
the Jimmy V Classic in New York.

The Wildcats host Saint Joseph’s on
Friday on ESPNU.

The Mountaineers take to the road on
Saturday for a game at Miami (Fla.).
