The purpose of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of movie media with English
subtitle usage in improving the students’ listening skill before and after using movie media
with subtitle in the university students. Sample of this research are 10 university students of
UIA. Actually, the students have ever token listening practice through movie media usage.
So, in this case the researcher just give them some questionnaire research about the effect
they got before and after do listening practice using movie media with English subtitle .
Furthermore, the result of questionnaire analysis also revealed that the students’ responses on
movie media with English subtitle usage in listening practice were positive. Many students
argue that the use of movie media is move effective than other media. The study was

The researcher gave the questionnaire that describe opinion about movie media usage in
listening practice in English Department sixth semester regular class. In relation to the
data from questionnaire distribution above, the analysis of each question is discussed

Based on the result of this study, it was proved that there was different condition before use
movie media and after use movie media in teaching listening skill. It means that the movie
media usage gives potential positive contribution in listening practice. Analysis of the
students’ responses from the questionnaire revealed that they were more interested in
teaching listening skill if the teacher used movie media with English subtitle as tool in
English learning. In addition, most students enjoy watching movie. For the English learner,
using movie media for teaching listening skill can be really great because it can help them to
enhancing their listening and speaking skills. It will also be useful tools to learn vocabulary
and culture, and the main benefit of movie media usage is entertaining the learner.
Furthermore, in the next day movie media can be good alternative media for teaching
