Subject: Unit 4 Project Proposal

For unit 4, we were assigned to create a project. I thought it would be interesting to associate it with my
current work at Troy Viland Custom Cabinets/Millwork. By doing this, it would be helpful for both my
boss and I. After brainstorming for ideas, I decided I wanted to develop some means of advertising since
our business does very little of it.

Proposal:
For this project, I am going to make an online showroom in the form of a website. The purpose of this
showroom is to help provide to our potential customers the many options we offer for their finish
carpentry needs. Once it is finished, anyone will be able to access through a URL.

Writing
The writing portion for this project is going to be included in the website. Part of it will consist of
background information on our business. Also included in this section will be a pricing guide to give the
customer an approximate cost of what his or her project will amount to. Many captions or footnotes
will also describe pictures that will be included.

Visual/Technological Communication
The visual/technological communication will also be in the form of a website. It will consist mainly of
pictures that have been taken from previous work that we have completed. These pictures in general
will give an overview of what type of work we do. We also offer many different options for just about
any design that one could consider. For example, maybe I will provide different styles of cabinet doors,
or different designs in trim.

Objective:
Not only will my goals for this project be beneficial for my education, but also for the work at Troy
Viland Custom Cabinets/Millwork. Some personal goals include:
 Gain knowledge on how to design a webpage
 Since I have never done this, have the patience to learn

Some goals that I have for Troy Viland Custom Cabinets/Millwork include:
 Make available an online form of advertisement for Troy Viland Custom Cabinets/Millwork
 Provide many finish carpentry options to our potential customers
 Design a website that is simple, yet effective
Methods:
Since this is a large project, it is going to be very helpful to have a plan before starting. By doing this, the
goal is not to fall behind and leave everything to the end. Therefore, I have put together steps to follow
in order to stay ahead.
1. Start a webpage – Since I have never created a webpage, I would like to get a head start on it
and learn how to operate and manage one. I will be using weebly.com.
2. Background information – I will put together a summary on Troy Viland Custom
Cabinets/Millwork. This summary will consist of background information on the business and
what we stand for.
3. Gather pictures and data – I will search for all of the pictures that we have taken in the past of
our previous work, and continue to take more pictures if we have ongoing projects that are in
the process. Also, I will put together some sort of pricing guide that will enable the customer to
calculate an approximate cost of the job.
4. Upload pictures – I will upload some pictures onto the website that I am creating. Again, some
of these pictures will show projects that have been completed while others will focus more on
detail and the many options that we offer.
5. Captions – I will add captions to many of the pictures, describing in detail what they are and
what we offer.
6. Revise – Once the webpage is fully created, I will revise and make it error-free.
Timeline:
The chart below shows when I plan to complete certain steps for this project.
