WORK SHEET 1 ( first group)

A. What to do
1. Put pieces of tissue on the table.
2. Rub a comb against your hair. Bring the comb closer to the tissue. Write the
result of your observation.
_____________________________________________________________________
3. Let the tissue stick to the comb for a few seconds. Write what you see.
_____________________________________________________________________

B. Analysis
1 What kind of charge do the comb and hair have before they are rubbed
against each other?
_____________________________________________________________________
2. What kind of charge do the comb and hair have after they are rubbed against
each other?
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
3. When the comb is brought closer to the tissue, why is it attracted by the
comb?
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
4. After the tissue has stuck to the comb for a few seconds, why does it fall?
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
C. Further Activity
1. In part A Steps 3. you have observed that after a few seconds the tissue falls
off the comb. If you are asked to formulate a hypothesis, which of the
hypotheses below you choose?
a. If the comb is rubbed by a wool cloth for a longer time, more pieces of
tissue will stick to the comb.
b. If the comb is rubbed by a wool cloth for a shorter time, more tissue will
stick to the comb.
c. The length of time to rub the comb against the wool does not influence
the number of piece of tissue sticking to the comb.

2. A variable is a unit that can be varied or changed in a certain situation. Based

on the hypothesis you choose, there are two variables. Circle the correct
variables.
a. pieces of tissue e. comb
b. the length of time to rub the comb f. number of tissue pieces clinging
c. type of combs g. type of tissue pieces
d. wool h. the way to rub the comb

3. A variable that is intentionally changed is called a manipulation variable. In

your hypothesis, which are the manipulation variable?
a. tissue pieces b. the comb
c. the length of time to rub the comb d. the number of pieces of tissue
which stick to the comb
e. the type of comb f. the type of pieces of tissue
g. the wool h. the way to rub the comb

4. A variable that changes as the result of controlling the manipulation variable

is called a response variable. In your hypothesis, which are the response
variable?
a. tissue pieces b. comb
c. the length of time to rub the comb d. number of tissue pieces clinging
e. type of combs f. type of tissue pieces
g. wool h. the way to rub the comb

5. A variable that affects the result of experiment is called a control variable. If

you are asked to test the hypothesis above in the experiment, which is the
control variable?
a. pieces of tissue e. comb
b. the length of time of rubbing the comb f. number of tissue pieces clung
c. type of comb g. type of tissue pieces
d. wool h. the way to rub the comb
An Experiment Plan
Study the experiment plan or the procedure to test the hypothesis above.

What to do
1. Rub the comb against the wool for 5 seconds.
2. Write the result of procedure 1 in 2 table.
3. Put the comb closer to the pieces of tissue and count the number of tissue
pieces which stick to the comb.
4. Write the number of tissue pieces which stick to the comb.

Worksheet 2 ( second group )

Obtaining Charge through Rubbing
A. What you need
- 1 plastic ruler
- a piece of wool
- a piece of silk
- a glass bar
- a piece of thread

B. What to do
1. Hang a plastic ruler on a thread, then rub one side hand against the wool.
2. After a while, rub one side of another ruler hand against the wool, bring it
closer to the first ruler. Observe and write the result on a data table.
3. Similarly, do it on a glass bar that is rubbed with the silk.
4. Now, rub again one side of the hung plastic ruler against the wool, one end of
the glass bar against the silk, and bring it closer to the charged ruler. Observe
and write the result in the data table.

C. Observation
Draw a table based on your observation.

D. Analysis and Conclusion

Write a conclusion based on the data you obtain.
