Alberta Party Process for Considering Requests from Members of the Legislative Assembly who Wish to Join the

Alberta Party Caucus The Board of Directors of Alberta Party passed the following resolution:
The Alberta Party may welcome a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to join the caucus of the Alberta Party in the Legislative Assembly, provided that the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly: 1. has agreed to accept the values and principles of the Alberta Party; 2. has obtained the support of the majority of the board of the registered Alberta Party Constituency Association for their riding, provided that there is a registered Constituency Association in that riding; 3. has obtained the support of the majority of the board of the Alberta Party; 4. agrees to undertake a citizen engagement process consistent with the principles of the Alberta Party; and 5. has agreed to follow the policies of the Alberta Party regarding the conduct of Members of Legislative Assembly.

The Board of Directors has agreed on the following process for implementing this policy: 1. The Alberta Party Board appoint a Caucus Organization Committee (COC). 2. Any sitting member of the legislature who wishes to engage in a confidential discussion about joining the Alberta Party Caucus (the “Requesting MLA”) shall be directed to speak with a member of the COC (the “COC Representative”). The COC Representative shall be responsible for advising the Requesting MLA about the Alberta Party MLA Guidelines and the approval process for joining the Alberta Party Caucus. 3. If the Requesting MLA wishes to pursue formal discussions, the COC Representative shall arrange a confidential meeting between the Requesting MLA and the COC to discuss their request to join the Alberta Party Caucus. 4. The COC shall conduct a due diligence investigation about the Requesting MLA. 5. The COC shall make a presentation to the Alberta Party Board which summarizes the: a. biography of the Requesting MLA; b. the conversations between the COC and the Requesting MLA; c. the results of the COC’s due diligence investigation; and d. the recommendation of the COC to the Alberta Party Board of Directors regarding whether the Board should extend an invitation to the Requesting MLA to join the Alberta Party Caucus.

6. The Alberta Party Board shall consider the recommendation of the COC at a full meeting of the Board. If the Alberta Party Board of Directors decides an invitation should be extended to the MLA, then it shall arrange for the Requesting MLA to meet with the board of the relevant Constituency Association, if such Constituency Association has been organized. The Constituency Association Board shall review the materials set forth in paragraph 5 above and decide by majority vote whether to extend an invitation to the Requesting MLA to join the Alberta Party Caucus. If there is no Constituency Association, then the Alberta Party Board may extend the invitation to the Requesting MLA directly.
