Kulapathi’s Message
Let me once more set forth the Bhavan’s
faith for the benefit of new students
and members for it is necessary that
they should understand it clearly and
imbibe its spirits. The Bhavan stands
for the reintegration of Indian Culture.
In the world falling to pieces under
the impact of an amoral technological
avalanche, it tries to hold fast to the
fundamental values, for which our
culture stands - RITA, SATYA, YAGNA
and TAPAS.
FAITH in God who forms the
cosmic order; TRUTH which is the
accord between mind, word and
deed; DEDICATION which offers all
movement of life as an offering to God;
SUBLIMATION which purifies the body
and mind and transmutes instincts,
passions and emotions into things
of beauty. This regardless of forms
and doctrines, is DHARMA, the three
fold aspects of which are - SATYAM,
SHIVAM and SUNDARAM - Truth, Love
and Beauty.
BHAVAN -over the Years
Founded on November, 7, 1938, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has grown from small
beginnings, into an all India intellectual, cultural and educational movement. True
to its goal of revitalizing Dharma or the Moral Law in its three fold forms of Truth,
Love and Beauty (Sathyam, Shivam and Sundaram), the Bhavan is ceaselessly striving
to carry forward India’s ageless message of Faith, Self-Discipline and Dedication
(Shraddha, Samyama and Samarpana). Dr. K.M. Munshi, the founder of Bharatiya
Vidya Bhavan, was a practical idealist. His was a many faceted personality. Lawyer,
Author, Constitution-maker, Statesman, Social Reformer, he was above all one who
persistently strove for cultural and spiritual regeneration.
Over half a century of its life, the Bhavan has been steadfastly endeavouring to
hold fast to the fundamental values of life and has been fostering these values,
reintegrating them with new elements suited to modern situations. This is being
accomplished through its 200-Plus constituent institutions and departments,
through its centres spread all over India and abroad that exceed a hundred. Its
publications in pursuit of this goal has crossed over 1500 in number with a collective
sales of over 30 million copies. Through its periodical journals in different languages,
through its Sanskrit and Gita examinations for which over 40,000 students appear
every year, Bhavan has been pursuing its goals.
Bhavan, through its various schools and colleges - kindergarten to Post Graduate
and Research levels – that are spread across the nation imparts education in
streams ranging from Sanskrit, Indology, Indian Culture, Indian Classical Music,
Dance, Drama, Yoga, Classical Languages and Ancient Scriptures to Arts, Science,
Commerce, Engineering, Modern Management, Mass Communication, Information
Technology and Foreign Languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, German and
Japanese.
Thus Bhavan’s programmes cover “all aspects of life from cradle to the grave and
beyond… it fills a growing vacuum in modern life” as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
observed when he first visited the Bhavan in 1950.
The main purpose of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is to provide a modern bridge
to span the past, the present and the future, built on the strong foundation of
the fundamental values of life. The Bhavan has set up centres in London, New
York, Lisbon, Mexico city and Durban. Plans are afoot to start centres in Geneva,
Singapore and Tokyo.

and died. So did Sri Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa, Swami Dayananda,
Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma
Gandhiji and Sri Aurobindo, among
the moderns.
Those values are embedded in our
national outlook. We command the
respect because of them. We can look
forward to the future with confidence
only because they have the vitality,
which gives the power to vindicate
their validity even in this fear and
avarice-ridden age of ours.
We, the Bhavan’s Family, whether it
is the smaller one or the larger one,
must make every effort in restoring an
awareness of these values in personal
and collective life.

Programme for working executives
The Need
In the changing business scenario
characterized by intense competition,
increasing outsourcing and high
customer expectations, job-content is
changing frequently and Managers have
to play multi-roles.
The organizations have to keep updating
the competencies required for the job
to ensure superior performance. Talent
is becoming increasingly scarce and
organizations are vying with each other
to acquire and retain talent. The changing
business scenario and increasing
outsourcing pose challenge in this regard.
The Managers have also to constantly
upgrade their knowledge base, skills
and competencies. The challenge posed
to upcoming executives is to not only
specialize in their area of work, but also
have adequate knowledge in all areas

week-ends, convenient for most working
executives. It will be conducted in central
Bangalore - in the Bhavan’s premises
on Race Course Road - which is quickly
reachable from any part of the city and
also provides for ample parking facilities.

rooms, senate halls and seminar halls are
air conditioned with modern audio visual
equipment.
