Tue CuurcH oF Jesus GHrist oF LaTTER-DAY SAINTS THE SEVENTY 47 East Sours Testeue Srreer, Satur Lake Crry, Una! 84160-1200 March 23, 2020 Dear Brethren, Thank you for your efforts to welcome home our missionaries who are returning from various parts of the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We know these are unprecedented times, and we appreciate your love and care in ministering to these missionaries and helping them feel the love of our Savior Jesus Christ. We are writing to bring an important matter to your attention. What occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Salt Lake airport causes us deep concern with missionaries and their families disregarding important instructions regarding self-isolation and congregating at airports. We ask you to help members in your stake understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of practicing safe social distancing, and the need to follow the recommendations from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As you interact with families about missionaries who are returning and self isolating, please emphasize this instruction, which was shared by the Church on Sunday afternoon: “Parents or guardians should go to the airport alone to meet a returning missionary and practice safe social distancing while there. That way, the missionary is able to properly begin self-isolation.” It is imperative that missionaries and their families adhere to these guidelines for their own safety, the safety of their families, and the safety of the community. Additionally, as large numbers of missionaries return home, many will be released based on the amount of time they have already served. Attached is a matrix that shows which missionaries may be considered for reassignment and which should be honorably released. We love you and pray our Heavenly Father will bless us during this challenging time. We are confident the work of the Lord will continue to move forward as we trust in Him. Sincerely, The Utah Area Presidency
