EXT. IN A BAREN GARDEN - DAY

An elderly man is piling mulch. His wife comes out into the backyard and looks on for
awhile.

THE WIFE
What are you doing, Dan?

THE HUSBAND
(continuing mulching)
I’m mulching the tree.

THE WIFE
(delighted)
Oh, gooood! What tree did you plant?

THE HUSBAND
I don’t know.

THE WIFE
(taken aback)
What do you mean you don’t know, dear?

THE HUSBAND
(signs)
It means I don’t know, dear, but I have a feeling
there’s something down there.

THE WIFE
(shakes her head and turns away)
Well, it’s your business, at least you’re getting some
exercise.

SOME YEARS PASS.

EXT. THE SAME GARDEN - DAY

A couple in black stand around the barren garden expanded with elaborate stoneworks.
The man is holding an urn.

THE MAN
(to the center of the empty garden)
My father’s last wish was to be buried under his
tree. It’s the strangest thing, I’ve never seen
anything growing in this garden in all my years
living here. Not once!

THE WOMAN
(touches the man’s elbow
affectionately)
Oh, honey, your father must’ve worked very hard
growing something. It’s not his fault nothing came
out of it. (Leans in close) It’s the thought that
counts.

They dig a hole in the center of the spot where they suppose the tree should be, and pour
the ashes into it before covering the hole up with dirt.

MANY YEARS PASS

With each generation, the garden expands. A dedication plaque is added first which says
“To the dream tree, dedicated by grand-son” then more and more elaborate inspirational
monuments show up then one day, a cult acquired the property.

EXT. THE GARDEN - NIGHT

Two figures in black hoods circles the stone structure that is now called “The Tree of Our
Savior, Amen” as the solid stone marker proclaims.

CULTIST #1
So, this is the famous tree of the dirty bastard.

CULTIST #2
(spits on the empty spot)
I can feel the filth underneath, we will have to
reclaim it for our Lord, the Lush Cosmetics.

CULTIST #1
I have already called our brothers and sisters of the
bathed. They are collecting donations as we speak.
(With satisfaction) We will establish our own
communal bathhouse right here.

They laugh their jolly-evil laugh and soon, more people join in for their jolly-making
bath.

MANY CENTRIES PASS

EXT. THE JOLLY TREE CITY - DAY

The residents go about their daily lives after the last world war that wiped out the rest of
the planet. Two workers are busy maintaining the all-importance “ember of life” in the
center of the town

WORKER #1
(while sweeping the empty spot on
the ground)
You know it is really my dream job. I grew up
worshipping this very ground, I always knew that
I’d be standing right at this, this very spot and
feeling all the right feelings while serving the, the
fire that’s invisible.

WORKER #2
They say the Chosen One, may she forever burn for
us, stood right here, while the rest of the world was
annihilated and we alone were saved. We burned
her alive as the scripture commanded, right here, as
she allowed it to happen. I’ll never forget the scene,
it is the holiest moment in all of history. It’s all it
should be. Only the true believers will remain.

EXT. MARS - TWILIGHT

Two Mars farmers rest after planting the martian field.

MARTIAN #1
I wonder how the crazies back on the home planet
are doing.

MARTIAN #2
I wouldn’t worry about them.

MARTIAN #1
I’m not worried about them, they destroyed that
planet with their extreme actions. I’m only curious.

MARTIAN #2
In that case, in the last satellite image, they seems to
be building a pyramid on top of their Holy Hole.

MARTIAN #1
(scratches his face through his
helmet)
Why do they do all these crazy things?

MARTIAN #2
Well, I guess some people have to believe in
something, Dan.
