Potus delivered 9-minute remarks at about 4:05 p.m.

in the South Court Auditorium of the EEOB

before signing H.R. 4853 the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job
Creation Act of 2010.
Calling it a "bipartisan effort," he thanked Republican leaders in the House and Senate for
their willness to "do what was right for the country even though it caused occasional political
discomfort." He also thanked Democratic leaders.
Potus said the tax relief package "will protect the middle class, grow our economy and cretae
jobs for the American people."
"The legislation I'm about to sign is a substantial victory for middle class families across the
country," he said.
He said he wouldn't have signed the bill without its extension of jobless benefits, access to
tuition tax credits, extension of the earned income tax credit and the child tax credit, as well as
tax incentives for businesses.
He said there are some elements of the legislation he doesn't like.
"That's the nature of compromise, yielding on some thing each of us cares about to more
forward on what all of us care about and right now what all of us care about is growing the
americna economy and creating jobs for the american people," he said. "Taken as a whole,
that's what this package of tax relief is going to do."
Potus laugh line: "There will be moments, I'm certain, over the next couple of years in which the
holiday spirit won't be as abundant as it is today."
He said difficult choices are ahead about tackling the deficit.
"In some ways this was easier than some of the tougher choices we're going to have to make
next year," he said. "There will be times when we won't agree and we're going to have to work
through those times together."
Potus was introduced by VPOTUS:
Vpotus laugh line: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is a…this is, I was going to say a big deal but an
important deal. I can no longer say big deal. Thank God my mother wasn't here."

american people at a time when they need it most."
