Objective
The objective of the VMware environment audit is as follows:

 Provide NALG management with an independent assessment of the quality


and attainment of virtualization is as per recommended standards.
 Provide NALG management with an assessment of the methodologies that has
been used in the in the implementation on VMware environment at their
premises.

Scope of Audit
The scope of the audit is:
 Review and analyze the complete IT Infrastructure environment. It shall
include but not limited to the following areas: Network Infrastructure, Storage
Infrastructure, Systems Analysis and Virtualization Implementation.
 To perform other procedures if deemed necessary to achieve the audit
objectives.

Current NALG Environment
The current NALG Environment consists of the following Hardware:
 NetApp Storage FAS2240 with Dual FC controller 24x600GB HDD
 VMware Infrastructure consisting of
o Physical Machines
Two Fujitsu Primergy RX 300S7 (SN: YLAR025138 and YLAR025139)
o Virtual Machines
Ten Virtual Machines:
HRPR (AX Dynamics 2009, Windows 2008 standard)

Findings and Recommendations

Action Plans
The following action plans should be carried out:

1. Upgrade the RAM in the Servers to at least 64GB.


2. Reconfigure the complete VMware HA cluster in order to have RAID-1
configuration on local disks.
3. Downtime required to perform the activity in Step 2.
4. Backup all the VMs before the reconfiguration of the VMware HA Cluster in
Step 2.
5. Design a new network as per the requirement of NALG.
6. Configure new vlans as per design in step 5.
7. Introduce vlans in the VMware environment.
8. Design a proper backup mechanism with Veaam.
9. Implement the backup process as per design in Step 8.
