The Gospel Proved from Scripture
This page is provided for those who might wish to discuss the lesson with household members. The Scripture, principle, and questions for
each day correlate with the Scripture and questions in the BSF lesson for this week.
Each week the study for Day 1 is a review based on the previous week’s study. Days 2 through 6 cover the new material. The first question
for each day’s Scripture reading is designed to be used as a discussion question. The second question may be used for discussion or for
individual application.

Day 1: Review of Romans 3:27-31: Justification By Grace through Faith Alone

Main Truth: God justifies His people by faith alone.
Principles: • Faith undermines boasting.
• Faith undermines discrimination.
• Faith upholds righteousness.
Question: How has the way you understand faith changed through your study this week?

Days 2-6: The Gospel Proved from Scripture

Day 2: Read Romans 4:1-5.
God credited perfect righteousness to Abraham.
What is the difference between payment for work you do and a gift you receive?
What gift does God give people who trust Him and do not try to earn salvation?
Have you received this gift from God, and how do you know?
Day 3: Read Romans 4:6-8.
God did not count David’s sins against him.
Why did God not count even David’s worst sins against him? (See also Psalm 32.)
Think of a specific sin of yours that God has counted against His Son instead of you. How will
you express your thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ?
Day 4: Read Romans 4:9-15.
God gave circumcision as a sign of the righteousness Abraham had by faith.
When did God declare Abraham righteous, before or after Abraham was circumcised?
(See Genesis 15:6; 17:24-26.)
What happens when people depend on outward signs, like circumcision, baptism or the
Lord’s Supper?
How can you depend on God as you take part in baptism and Communion?
Day 5: Read Romans 4:16-25.
Abraham is the father of all who believe.
In addition to Abraham, for whom were the words “it was credited to him” written?
What must we believe for God to include us in this promise?
Day 6: Review Romans 4.
God justified Abraham through faith.
What have you learned about God in this week’s study?
How could you make this truth a part of your life?
