Big enough to stand

POINT:
Be big enough to stand as a shield between the hurting and the world’s judgment.

WIN:
Tonight is the week before Switch Easter. You win if you encourage students not only to come back next
week but also to invite and bring a friend with them. The main goal of tonight’s content is to help
students recognize times they’ve been throwing stones at others instead of showing love to them and to
learn to stand up for the injustices they see. Tonight is also a Build night, so capitalize on the idea that
we as Switch will stand up together and fight for what’s right.

INTRO (option 1)
What’s up, Switch?! (One option for an intro this week is to really focus on invites for next week’s Easter
message. Share an invite story and cast vision for why it matters to bring someone with you to Switch.
Encourage them that next week is one of the best times to bring a friend because it’ll be a powerful
message that really explains the Gospel.)

*If you don’t do this for an intro, you’ll for sure want to talk about invites at the end of the message after
your close. Be sure to mention inviting in your announcements no matter what.

INTRO (option 2)

What’s up, Switch? I’m so glad you’re here! Okay, so who here has some pet peeves?

There’s a lot of things that can get under your skin. Like when people smack their food. Or when people
say the word “moist.” Or when you’re texting someone and they start typing and you see those little
three dots but then they stop, and you never get a text! I mean—who even does that? That one is the

worst because then you know they saw your message and then they just straight up ignored you. But my
biggest pet peeve is when … (share a lighthearted pet peeve you have).

Anyone with me? So, we all have things that bug us. But there are other things in life that get us way
more fired up. I’m talking about the things that make you feel triggered—the things that you seriously
cannot stand. Tonight’s message is all about that, so let’s check it out! (cue video)

CLOSE
Tanner delivers the challenge prayer, but the video will pitch to you to deliver the salvation prayer. You’ll
want to be ready on stage as soon as Tanner starts praying, then you’ll pick it up after he says, “Amen.”

Prayer 2:

Still in an attitude of prayer with every head still bowed and every eye closed, there’s another group of
you in here tonight.

THE PROBLEM:
Some of you may have walked in here not knowing that there is a God who is standing in the gap for
you. See, just like the woman in the story, we’ve all made mistakes in our lives. That’s called sin. And
that sin separates us from a holy, perfect God. But God was not okay with that.

THE SOLUTION:
God sent His only Son, Jesus, down to earth to stand up for you. To give you the same grace He showed
that woman. See, because of our sin, we all deserve death. But Jesus gave us grace instead. He gave up
His life so that anyone—and this includes you—who calls on His name can be saved. Jesus died on a
cross to take the punishment for our sins, and because of that, we can have a relationship with God.

THE RESPONSE:
The only thing required of us is a response. We just need to accept that Jesus paid the price that we
could not pay. And when we do that, we can start a relationship with God. We can start experiencing His
grace and living by His truth so that we can extend it to others. So if that’s you tonight and you’re ready
to start a relationship with God, then lift your hand right now so I can pray for you. (Celebrate with
students making that decision and lead through salvation prayer.)
