Ephraim Shay was an inventor who moved to Harbor Springs in 1888. He

invented a steam train with powerful gears that could climb steep hills. Logging
companies all over the world used Shay locomotives. In Harbor Springs, Shay
build his own railway and called it the Hemlock Central. It hauled logs but
was also a passenger train. People would pay to take rides on the train into the
countryside for picnics. Besides his railroad, Shay also created a steel boat he
named the Aha and constructed his unique Hexagon House.

This line drawing of Ephraim Shay

shows him as an older man.

If you were an inventor what

would you create and why?
