2020-21 MILITARY MEMORIAL


CONSERVATION GRANT PROJECTS

 Darlingford Memorial Park Committee – $5,000 to conserve and paint exterior woodwork
and refinish the interior of the Darlingford Memorial Park memorial building.
 Fisher River Cree Nation – $9,833 to restore flagpoles at Veterans Monument and prepare
a new, packed-gravel area near the base to improve accessibility.
 Icelandic Festival of Manitoba – $5,800 to clean the Gimli cenotaph and repair paving to
improve accessibility.
 RM of Montcalm – $10,000 to erect a new Pillar of Remembrance in St. Jean Baptiste’s
Parc du Patrimoine, to commemorate the military service and sacrifice of people from the
municipality.
 RM of Rosedale – $3,900 to repair, restore and clean memorials in Riding Mountain, Birnie,
Franklin and Kelwood.
 Royal Canadian Legion Br. No. 215 – $7,000 to replace flag poles and update inscriptions
at the Maxwell King Cenotaph and repair surroundings to make them accessible.
 RM of Thompson – $9,140 to clean and conserve the Miami cenotaph and erect a new
granite monument in honour of Thompson veterans who served in the Boer War, the World
Wars, the Korean War and peacekeeping missions.
 Town of Melita – $4,000 to add two new plaques to the Melita cenotaph to commemorate
Afghanistan (2001 to 2014) and peacekeeping missions around the world, and to repair
and update the surrounding surface to make it more accessible.
