By Laura Paine Wicked Local Watertown Posted Dec 20, 2010 @ 05:21 PM WATERTOWN — A Canton man was placed under arrest after police officers found him asleep behind the wheel of his car with a baggie of heroin beneath his feet. On Dec. 13 at 5:15 p.m., police reported to Perry Street for reports of a suspicious car that had been stopped on the street, with the engine running and lights on, for more than an hour. When police arrived on the scene, they located the red, 2010 Mercedes and allegedly found Ergin Abaz, 47, of 5 Fairview Road in Canton, asleep behind the wheel of his car – which was in drive – with his foot on the break. Officers were able to wake up Abaz who was allegedly difficult to understand because he was slurring his words. According to police reports, officers found pieces of plastic baggies on the floor, one of which was tied in a knot and contained a brown substance that officers believed to be heroin. Abaz was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs; possession of a Class A drug, heroin; and was held on a warrant out of Stoughton District Court for two counts of larceny over $250.
