INTRODUCTION

The worldwide disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous
impacts on the environment and also the climate. With more folks staying inside and off the
roads, cities around the globe are reporting less pollution. This situation we can see at the first
pandemic begins. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak's impact on travel and industry, many regions
and therefore the planet as an entire experienced a drop by pollution. The Centre for Research
on Energy and Clean Air reported that methods to contain the spread of coronavirus, like
quarantines and travel bans, resulted in an exceedingly 25 per cent reduction of carbon emission
in China. After China begin lockdown, Italy also has massive Covid-19 pandemic and lead to
the country for lockdown. Between 1 January and 11 March 2020, the Space Agency observed
a marked decline in inhalation general anaesthetic emissions from cars, power plants, and
factories within the Po Valley region in northern Italy, coinciding with lockdowns within the
region. This situation has led to the advantage and disadvantage of Covid-19 pandemic to air
pollution.

DISCUSS

There are few point of advantage and disadvantage of Covid-19 pandemic to air
pollution. For example, the COVID-19 lockdown has led to cleaner air, but will do little to
handle the problem of pollution within the long term. This is the few advantage and
disadvantage of this situations.
ADVANTAGES

The advantage of Covid-19 to our pollution is the decrease of Nitrogen dioxide gas.
Nitrogen dioxide is a highly reactive gas produced during combustion that has many harmful
effects on the lungs. The gas typically enters the atmosphere through emissions from vehicles,
power plants and industrial activities. Since the lockdown occur, the government has ask the
whole country to shut down economy activities. This lead the factory around our country to
stop operate. Our people also dint go to work and don’t use many transport that produce
Nitrogen dioxide. Besides that, the advantage of Covid-19 to air pollution is the air are getting
clear with blue skies and less haze. Clear skies shows that there are less particle matter in the
air. Particle are tiny bit of soot and other substance floating with the air. Particles reflect with
sunlight, so paradoxically fewer particles might mean more warming. Particles are tiny bits of
soot and other substances floating in the air. They too come from a wide range of natural and
man-made sources, including fossil fuel combustion, cooking meat, wildfires, trees and dust.
As with nitrogen dioxide, the COVID-19 crisis provides an unplanned opportunity to better
understand the sources of particulate matter.

DISADVANTAGES

During this lockdown, there still disadvantage of Covid-19 to air pollution. The main
disadvantage is the disease can be spreading by the air and infected at the area with high air
pollution. People at this area are tend to easily affected by Covid-19 because air pollution
weakening our immune system and this will lead us to get affected easily if we not applying
safety measures such as always sanitise our hand and wearing mask when going out. Besides
that, one of the disadvantage is increase in surface ozone levels. This is because the drop of
Nitrogen Oxide .Ozone is a secondary pollutant formed when sunlight and high temperature
catalyse chemical reactions in the lower atmosphere. Ozone is harmful to humans at ground-
level, causing pulmonary and heart disease.
CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, this pandemic have teach us lesson to always take care of our environment.
Although there are more advantage that disadvantage to air pollution, there are still works and
responsibility for us to take care of the environment. Poisoning the air is like poisoning ourself.
Let’s us take care of the air for our daughter in the future.
