Notes:

This spreadsheet is to calculate the length of the aircraft


arrester cable on an aircraft carrier to successfully stop a
landing plane.

To do so we have to calculate the integral of the function


f(x)=0.17x^2+20x.
The integral is the area of a region under a curve.
By breaking the region into thin vertical slabs we approximate
this area. (The thinner the slabs are the more accurate result
we get.)
To stop the plane the cumulative area, in other words the
work done by the cable has to equal or to be more than the
kinetic energy of the landing plane.
For calculating the kinetic energy (KE=0.5mV^2) we need to
consider not only the speed of the plane and the ship but
their direction as well as the wind`s.
We have to find the value of "x" for which F=5678kNm.
