2. Lesson Proper

Exactly!! Our topic for today is all about the

pottery in the Ilocos Region.
Kindly read Angelica.
Ilocos folk arts includes earthenware in
various shapes and sizes. Ilocos Norte is
noted for its various cottage industries,
some of which are cloth weaving, pottery
making, woodcarving, blacksmithing, and
furniture making.

That’s right, Ilocos region have various arts

and crafts but we will be focusing in the
pottery making industry of Ilocos.

Pottery- is the ceramic material which makes

up pottery wares, of which major types
include earthenware, stoneware and porcelain
. The place where such wares are made is also
called a pottery (plural "potteries").
Pottery also refers to the art or craft of a
potter or the manufacture of pottery. A
dictionary definition is simply objects of fired
clays.

San Nicolas was the heritage of pottery

making which is believed to have started in
the 15th century to thrive in this town.

The pottery making industry in Vigan is also

a popular cottage industry. It is believed that
pottery making was already practiced by the
natives even before the Spanish colonizers
arrived in the Philippines. The early settlers
introduced the Burnay which serve as an all-
weather container of local products for
shipment to China and other ancient Asian
kingdom.

Pagburnayan is a place where they used the

old and authentic methods in pottery. The
root word “burnay” is an earthenware jar
crafted by potter’s hands with the aid of a
potter’s wheel. It uses fine sand (anay) as a
tempering material and fired at a high
temperature in a huge brick-and-clay ground
kiln that make it is harder and more durable
than other terra cotta.

Do you have any question class?

None ma’am.
Now let’s watch a video presentation on how
they make Burnay in Vigan.

(The teacher will Present the Video)

(The students will watch the video)

molding the clay that I provide to you.

Here are the procedures.

How To Make A Pinch Pot Step By Step

ball.
2. 2. Next, press your thumb into the centre
