Blake as a mystic poet.

William Blake is no doubt first mystical poet of 18th century. In his poetry
he preaches for the development of human soul. He has shown intense
vision prophetic imagination and mystical mind when arise in him due to
his contact with mystical figures. This shows him the prince of mystical
revolt as a critic Raina says,

“Blake seems perhaps, the greatest Christian prophet of modern age.”

Blake theology or his doctrine is that God is the lord of all human beings
and he reveals His relation with man in nature. He does not think that
God exist apart from man rather he is in man. He is creative and spiritual
power in man As he says

“Man is all imagination, God is man, exists in us and we in him”

He expresses same idea in the poem “Augries of innocence” when he

talks about od’s power and says that God is the name of light and appears
in human form. Those persons who have strong belief about this doctrine
can find Him. As he says,

“God Appears & God is Light

To those poor Souls who dwell in Night
But does a Human Form Display
To those who Dwell in Realms of day”
He seems pure mystical poet by showing two conditions and status of
human soul. He claims when man take birth, he is the personification of
God’s qualities as innocence , mercy , love peace and kindness. But later
becomes corrupted man due to experiences of life. As in “the Divine
Image” of the sons of innocence he says that when man baby is born he is
embodiment of all great qualities,
“For Mercy has a human heart,
Pity a human face,
And Love, the human form divine,
And Peace, the human dress.”
But later experiences of life wipes out his innocence . He becomes the
embodiment of vices and evil and due to it, he loses divine image As he
says,
“Cruelty has a Human Heart
And Jealousy a Human Face
Terror the Human Form Divine
And Secrecy, the Human Dress”
