EVALUATION ON PCIs Performance

On January 25, 2011, we had a new set of PCIs for our third and fourth week community
exposure at barangay Matiao. But we already met the two of them, Mr. Bumanglag & Ms.
Cabaling lastly together with our original PCIs for the 1st and 2nd week because they were
invited to observe our group performance and does have an orientation to our plan of activities
for the whole community. That day, they called for a mini-conference with our group to have an
orientation and actual designation of position to the group. They formally introduced their
names and read to us their grading system as well as the guidelines for their plan of activities
each day. They served well that day and successfully fulfilled their tasks for the day.

On January 25, we already set foot to different places in search for possible financiers
for the project. That was a continuation to last weeks activity. Our PCIs divided our group into
two so that we could effectively follow-up the solicitations for the project. They kept on
reminding us that we should always observe proper decorum in entering the municipal offices
and other establishments. They guided us well that day and was able to initialize their tasks.

On January 27, 2011, the group conducted a nurse-client interaction or NCI to assess the
patients’ mental, physical, emotional and phsycoligical well-being and also to identify wether
the client is emotionaly competent enough. Our PCIs were the ones who manage us during the
interview with the client. To further evaluate what happened during the interview, I’ll start with
the initial vital signs taking. At first, we were reminded by Mr. Bumanglag that before starting
an NCI, we should always take first the initial vital signs. Then, He briefly discussed to us some
points on how to conduct an NCI, what are the necessary things to be asked during the
interview and what are the do’s and dont’s in NCI.

We’re already through with our third week duty on community organizing in line with
ou r community exposure at Purok, Bucana, Pahamutang, Matiao, Mati City. Our planned
actvities for that day was to visit the family of Mrs. Lisa Monares, our desired core group. Our
purpose of coming over was to collect data on the family’s past and present health history and
also to conduct an NCI or Nurse-Client Interview. It is a process in which a nurse and a client
exchange or share information, verbally or non-verbally. This is a fundamental to
communication and and is an essential component of the nursing assesment.

Ms. Recitas and I were designated by our PCIs to conduct the NCI. I was really nervous
because I was not refreshed of the nursing assessment that we are about to conduct. But
thanks to Mr. Bumanglag, I was saved by his tips and guidelines on how to safely conduct the
assessment. During the assessment, I was the one who personally talked with the client and
Ms. Recitas served as my secretary. Our PCI gave us the format for the NCI and rationalized the
importance of each in our questionnaire.

For me, our PCIs did very well on that day and they did their best to guide us and
further educate us in any ways possible. As what I’ve observed, they plan of activities for each
day are well-organized and very realistic and time bounded. They have the desire to achieve
more and do troubleshooting if needed. Throughout the days, except for the first day, i havent
encountered any problem with our PCIs performance rate.
