STONEWALL DEMOCRATS OF DALLAS — GENERAL MEETING – JANUARY 18, 2001 President Omar Narvaez called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

After welcoming all, Omar noted that a new “social half-hour,” 6-6:30, will precede each 2011 business meeting. Omar then noted the elected officials attending: Eric Moye Carter Thomos Don Adams Susan Bradley Tina Yoo Elba Garcia Katy Huebner Elizabeth Crowder And the candidates for municipal offices attending: M Alonzo Scott Griggs James Nowlin Jim Rogers Jim Warren Omar also recognized two past presidents attending: Erin Moore Jesse Garcia Judge Eric Moye swore in the four officers elected for 2011: Omar Narvaez, President Michael Wetter, Vice President Mike McCue, Treasurer Phyllis Guest., Secretary Omar’s president’s report comprised four items: 1 – Good news: Congressional vote /Presidential sig ending of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) 2 – Wounding of Congresswoman Giffords (moment of silence) 3 – Four goals for 2011: Elect GLBT-friendly Dallas Mayor and City Council members. Recruit, educate and train at least 30 new election judges and precinct chairs. Grow SDD membership to 300 paid members, 1/3 of whom make sustaining pmts. Diversify through recriting women, minorities, youth 4 – Need to replenish SDD funds to prepare for 2012 Omar then asked each officer and BOD member to speak briefly. VP Wetter spoke of backing up Omar and reaching out to other Dem clubs.

Treas McCue reviewed 2010 expenditures, reported a year-end balance of $10,878 and called attention to specific fundraising target for 2011: $30,000 (a boost of almost 1/3 over 2010). Sec Guest reiterated need to grow SDD, and called for approval of last (Nov 2010) general meeting minutes. M Wetter moved, Keith Pombray seconded, voice vote unanimous. Political Affairs Dir Tony McMullin urged all to attend Stonewall’s upcoming endorsement meeting: Sat March 19, Resource Center Dallas, 9 a.m. – completion of endorsements. Membership Dir Shawn Thompson wanted Omar to again emphasize outreach & income. Communications Dir Jesse Garcia accepted thanks for new, enhanced newsletter. Voter Reg Chair Patrick McCoy noted that SDD will register voters the third Saturday of each month (Sat after Gen Mtg) at Cedar Springs & Throckmorton; other efforts TBA. Special Events Chair Travis Gasper announced State of the Union Watch Party, Tue January 25, 7-10 p.m. at The Brick, 2525 Wycliff; $2 Skyy vodka drink specials. Stonewall Young Democrats Rep Jared Pearce announced the next DSYD meeting for Tue January 25, 6:30-8 p.m., in time to reach The Brick for the Watch Party; location TBA. He also announced a Sat February 12 fundraiser for the club with special guest Jessica Farrar. Special guests Gillian Parillo and Pauline Bourqui spoke about the need for more deputy election registrars; they provided materials, offered details after meeting for new DRs. Erin Moore. TX SDD VP and member of the TX Dems Exec Committee, spoke of the state Stonewall meeting, Austin, Fri-Sat-Sun March 4-5-6; transgendered Mara Kiesling will be the featured speaker. Conference registration is $75; deadline for hotel reservations is Thu February 10. Mon March 7 is Equality TX lobby day. More details on TX SD website. Wetter moved SDD donate $500; J Garcia seconded; unanimous voice vote approval. Candidates for upcoming MUNI elections spoke briefly: 1 – Jim Moore (Mayor) 2 – Scott Griggs (CC Dist 3) 3 – James Nowlin (CC Dist 14 4 – Jim Rogers (CC Dist 14) ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1 – Wetter reiterated need for Precinct Chairs, Election Judges, clerks for early voting days. 2 - Becca Wilcox, next month’s special guest, spoke of need for foster care parents. 3 – 2 new members: Jesse Tafalla and Jim Rogers; 8 renewals.
