METHODOLOGY

Research Method

The researcher made us of the descriptive method because it would It describes

data and characteristics about the population or phenomenon being studied. Descriptive

research answers the questions who, what, where, when, why and how. The description

is used for frequencies, averages and other statistical calculations. In short, it deals with

everything that can be counted and studied.

Population Frame

The respondents were taken from 10 public high schools in Pasig City. To cite:

Eusebio High School, Kapitolyo High School, Manggahan High School, Nagpayong

High School, Pinagbuhatan High School, Rizal High School, Sagad High School, San

Joaquin Kalawaan High School, Santolan High School and Sta. Lucia High School.

There were 32 Grade 7 teachers selected from these public high schools.

Description of the Respondents

There were 32 respondents for this study. All the respondents are from the

different public schools in Pasig City who were currently teaching or handling Grade 7

English subject during the school year 2012-2013. There were 6 males and 26 female

respondents in this study. The table below shows the profile of the respondents.
Table 1

Profile of the Respondents

Manggahan HS 1 3 4
Nagpayong HS 0 3 3
Pinagbuhatan HS 0 4 4
Sagad HS 1 2 3
Eusebio HS 0 3 3

Rizal HS 2 2 4
Sta. Lucia HS 1 2 3

The Table 1 shows the list of schools where the survey conducted with

respective number of male and female to get the total number of teachers who serve as

the respondents. There were 32 respondents composed of 6 males and 26 females.

The Survey Instrument

In order to gather the needed data, the researchers utilized a modified

questionnaire. The survey form is composed of three parts. The first part was used to

gather the perception of the respondents about the K-12 Curriculum. The second part
gathered the perception of the respondents by means of a rubric, which was originally

published in an educational website created by Kristie Pretti-Frontczak year 2006.

While the last part was for the suggestions of the respondents to further enhance the

curriculum.

Data Gathering Methods and Procedures

The researchers prepared the questionnaire and have it validated by the

members of the panel. The questionnaires were then distributed to ten public high

schools in Pasig city. The respondents were all grade 7 English teachers and they were

asked to answer the survey form. After that, the survey results were tallied, tabulated

and analyzed.

Statistical Treatment of Data

This study was quantitative in approach. All the data gathered were analyzed

quantitatively using percentage and mean.

Percentage was used to describe and analyze which among the common

perceptions of the teachers regarding K-12 was chosen most by the respondents.

The formula used was:

f
%= x 100
n

Where:

%= percentage

f = frequency and

n= total number of respondents

Weighted mean was used to describe and analyze which among the criteria for

evaluating the curriculum was rated high by the respondents.

The formula used was:

Σf
WM=
n

Where:

WM=¿weighted mean

Σ f = summary of frequency

n= total number of respondents

To interpret the weighted mean, the researchers used the Likert Scale with the

following legend.

1.00-1.80 -Needs Improvement

1.81-2.60 -Poor

2.61-3.40 -Fair

3.41-4.20 - Very Good

4.21-5.00 - Excellent

The results were then ranked according to percentage and the weighted mean.
