Youth and Politics Youth is the stage that shapes one¶s character, changes one¶s personality, and develops

an individual to responsible citizen. Involvement of youth in politics is what I want to depict in this article. Youth politics is a category that involves or otherwise impacts the youth. It was first identified in American Political System by the formation of American Youth Congress in the period of 1930s.In one of the speech in the parliament on the confidence motion, Omar Abdulla started with ³ I am an Indian first and then a Muslim. It is always the country first´. This brought to the focus the importance of youth who come out with new ideas, freshness and transparency in Indian politics that is presently considered as the corrupt political system due to lack of commitment. More precisely it can be told that India is still developing country from past 60 years because there is no one leader who can define right direction and shape Indian youth to future prospects. All it needs is proper allocation of its precious resources being headed by a committed leader. A prominent stage in Youth involvement came in the form of call given by then Prime Minister, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. For our generation, politics, as a career, comes way down the career-option list. Rampant corruption, criminalization of politics, lack of accountability, lack of family and peer support, etc. are some of the reasons behind this. Apart there is one more reason that is worth stated. In other countries there is a age limit for the politicians and their service say 60 years. But in India, people continue their service even after retirement. Will this help the youth come up? By the time these politicians retire, the Indian youth will no more be ³Youth´. Another reason is the misrepresentation of the Youth as `cool, young and happening¶. Very few people possess a voter identification card and an iota of them actually go to vote, all of which result in a degraded majority and a wrong party on power. ³Nobody will ever deprive the Indian people of the right to vote except the Indian people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.´ We can just hope India will wake from its sound sleep soon and realize that young minds can shape it better. It is true that experience comes with age ,but there are B-school graduates like Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora and others like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra who constitute fresh set of decision making bodies. Their involvement in politics, their social responsibility, and conservativeness has been showing results in development of India. Bharat Uday Mission is one outfit if IITians who are either planning to enter politics today or at a center of point. What is lacking is awareness, about oneself, of what you can do for your motherland. Once this ignorance moves away, India will rise.
