The Case of the Fractured Fiend: A Math Lesson Like No Other

Matt Monjan (Discovery Education)

It was a cold and rainy day when she walked into my office. I could tell she had it all, style, money, and was a good dancer - she had good algorithm. I asked her what I could do for her and she began to tell me a story, a story that had so much drama it was full of wordy problems. Then she mentioned the ransom note signed by the Fractured Fiend. My ears perked up but I had to admit the note was not a good sine. She explained to me that her dear dog, Digit, was now missing and all that she had to go on was the half of a note left behind. We decided that my fee would be a quarter and I told her not to

worry...I was positive that I would get to the root of the problem. During this session we'll explore the case by putting the concepts we learned through Discovery Education media on the case. Using our newfound knowledge, we'll decipher the clues and find out just who is our Fractured Fiend and where he is hiding the dear dog Digit.
