HEALTH TEACHING PLAN

BREASTFEEDING

I. LEARNING DIAGNOSES : Knowledge deficit: Breastfeeding, proper positioning and


attatchment, common feeding problems, appropriate diet for mothers.

II. OBJECTIVES: After 30 minutes of discussion, the clients will be able to:

a.) Define breastfeeding on their own words.

b.) Give at least five out of thirteen advantages of breastfeeding

c.) Demonstrate proper positioning and attachment of infant

d.) Enumerate three out of six ways in promoting feeding; enumerate two out of four
ways of feeding during child’s illness

e.) Identify two out of four appropriate diet for lactating mothers

f.) Verbalize feelings and concerns regarding breastfeeding

4. Counsel the mother about Group discussion with visual

milk or food:

–Give more frequent longer
breast feeding day and night,
gradually reducing other milk or
foods
–Milk should be correctly and
hygienically prepared and give in
adequate amount
–Prepare amount of milk which
the child can consume within an
hour. Discard over milk
b.) if the child is not feeding well
during illness, counsel the
mother to: -Breast feed more
frequently and longer if possible
–Use soft varied appetizing
favorite foods to encourage the
child to eat as much as possible.

5. Proper diet for lactating mother aids

IV. EVALUATION
a.) Instant oral feedback: The clients were able to define breast feeding in their own
words, give at least 5 out of 13 advantages of breast feeding, enumerate 3 out of 6
ways in promoting feeding, enumerate 2 out of 4 ways of feeding during child’s
illness, and identify 2 out of 4 appropriate diet for lactating mothers.

b.) Return demonstration: the mothers were able to demonstrate proper positioning
and attachment of infant
