Course Description:
Construction of highway needs various types of materials for providing better serviceability for the
various types of traffic movement. These materials must be durable against the adverse action of
weather and traffic. Moreover, highway needs a proper pavement thickness (Flexible & Rigid)
considering the action of number of traffic repetitions, material properties, sub-grade strength and
environmental condition. Pavement layers may also need stabilization for sustaining the original shape
& stability of the embankment throughout its life. So the subject deals with the above topics along
with their properties, production & applications in the pavement construction. Pavement materials
mainly covered with; aggregates, bricks, paver block, cement, bitumen, soil, MS rod, concrete,
admixtures, timber, paints, etc. The main objective is to provide basic technical knowledge of these
materials so that the students can apply this knowledge to solve pavement construction problems.
Besides, proper maintenance will be necessary for keeping desired serviceability of highway
throughout its life.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):

After successful completion of the course, student will be able to:

Description
CLO01 Describe the various properties of highway materials & their applications.
CLO02 Select suitable materials for individual pavement and pavement layers in construction
works.
CLO03 Understand about the construction equipments and techniques for using in various types of
pavements & pavement layers construction.
CLO04 Design of structural layers of a flexible pavement and that of a rigid pavement.
CLO05 Understand the construction procedure of flexible pavement and rigid pavement.
CLO06 Capable of doing various mix design for pavement construction along with low cost road.
CLO07 Know the maintenance systems & maintenance operation for various elements of highway.
CL008 Do the Geometric design of highway intersection.

Lecture Learning Outcomes (LLO):

At the end of the lecture, student will be able to:
