It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the American Star Ball dance competition,
to be held at Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, NJ, May 20-22,2011. This competition is
open to all registered professional and amateur dancers.
All the information and entry forms needed are within this booklet. If we have overlooked
anything or if there is any additional information needed, please do not hesitate to contact us at the
address or phone numbers given.
If you decide not to go on package, we have a block of rooms reserved and you can make your
reservations directly with the hotel at 800-247-8767 and tell them you are with the American Star Ball.
Book your hotel rooms early our block is only available until May 10th, or until it is sold out, whichever
happens first.
The deadline for entries is May 2, 2011. We will be unable to accept professional or amateur
entries that are not received in time to be printed in the program. We go to print at 8am on May 9, so
please have your entries in if you intend to compete professionally or would like your entries counted
towards the top teacher awards.
We will be having a nifty fifty drawing for all Pro/Am teachers and also a scavenger hunt for all
participants in the competition, so be sure to bring a bag with anything you can think of, from rubber
bands to postage stamps. You never know what we will be asking for.
We hope that you will join us, and we will do our utmost to make your experience a memorable
and enjoyable one.

Professional Show

**Levels: Newcomer (first time competitor or less than 30 hrs of lessons), Pre-Bronze, Bronze 1,
Full Bronze, Open Bronze, Pre-Silver, Silver 1, Full Silver, Open Silver, Pre-Gold,

• Men will compete against the ladies if there are less than 3 entries of either sex in the event.
• Costumes may be worn in all categories however, no thongs are permitted.
• Materials danced must coincide with any NDCA approved step list.

Rules:
In order to avoid errors, and to correspond with the computer
1. Entries must be made on New Jersey State Open entry forms
2. Names of both partners must be listed for entry to be accepted.
3. Juniors must dance in division entered.
4. No changes will be made at the event.
5. Parents will not be permitted in or around the line-up area.
6. NDCA costuming rules are recommended
Children are expected to be on their best behavior while attending the Competition.
They are not permitted to run around or carry on in the Ballroom or the Hotel in general.
Teachers must supervise the children at all times.
Any complaints about a child will result in the child being prohibited from dancing and evicted from the Competition area.
No refunds will be made under these circumstances.

Hotel Accommodations
For those of you planning to stay at the Hotel, but not saying on package, we have reserved a block of
rooms at the Tropicana at the rate of $99.00 on Friday (plus taxes and surcharges) and $189.00 on
Saturday (plus taxes and surcharges). If you are not on a package, please make your reservations
directly with the Hotel at (800) 247-8767 by May 10th, and tell them you are with the American Star
Ball to receive the group rate. The group rate will only be available until May 10th, or until our
block is sold out, whichever happens first. Late reservations may not receive the discount and
you may be charged the regular hotel room rate at that time.

Program Advertising
Advertisements and Congratulatory notices are black and white and placed in the program at
the following rates. (All ads must be camera ready)
1. All persons attending this competition, whether as spectators, competitors or guest of officials, hereby
release the Organizers, the NDCA, their officers, employees, volunteers, agents, and any other people
connected with this event, from any and all liability for damage to or loss of personal property, sickness
or injury from whatever source, legal entanglements, imprisonment, death or financial loss, which might
occur while participating in this event. All attendees will be aware of the risks of participation, and
understand that they participate at their own risk
2. No responsibility for the loss or theft of personal belongings left in the changing rooms, ballroom,
practice spaces or any hotel rooms will be accepted by the Organizers, NDCA or the Hotel
3. All persons attending the competition shall be bound by the NDCA rules and attending the events are
automatically obliged to adhere to them.
4. No video taping or filming will be allowed, however, a professional video company will be on hand to
video your dancing
5. It is understood that anyone in the ballroom may be photographed or video taped and it may be shown
elsewhere. Anyone attending this event consents to be photographed and/or video taped and waves any
and all claims and rights to the use of the photos or videos.
6. All completed forms and full payment must be received by the deadline. Payments must accompany
entries.
7. Entry fees must be paid before competing.
8. Entry fees do not include admission to the ballroom. Non-Package holders competing or spectating, will
be required to purchase General Admission Tickets.
9. All categories and events are subject to a reasonable registration and the Organizers reserve the right to
reduce by half, the advertised prize money, combine, merge or cancel any heats or events with
insufficient entries.
10. All Professional and amateur couples must be registered with the NDCA. NDCA registration forms are
available from <www.ndca.org> or Ms. Eleanor Wiblin, PO Box 22018, Provo, Utah 84602.
11. All cancellations must be made in writing to the organizers. Cancellations made up to 10 days prior to
the event will receive a refund within 30 days after the event. A $75 cancellation fee will be applied to
all refunds. No refunds will be given within 10 days of the event. No substitutions of entries will be
allowed. Absolutely no refunds will be given at the event. Refunds or exchanges cannot be made on
plaques, trophies or general admission tickets.
12. The Chairman of Judges shall be responsible for decisions concerning ties or any problem arising over
marks. Any questions or discrepancy of results are to be addressed immediately after the results of the
event are given. The decision of the Chairman shall be final.
13. A student may enter a younger age category in addition to their normal age division, but not an older
one.
14. A student may dance in three consecutive divisions; for example: Full Bronze Tango, Pre-Silver Tango
and Silver one Tango, but not Full Silver Tango.
15. Teachers may not enter two students in the same category.
16. Collegiate must be under 25 years young and have a current valid ID card.
17. Costumes may be worn, but are not required in all categories. No thongs are permitted. It is
recommended that children follow the NDCA costuming requirements.
18. If in the opinion of the organizers, a costume is deemed inappropriate, the competitor will have the
option of changing costumes or withdrawing from the competition. No refunds will be issued in this
situation. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any competitor who fails to rectify a costuming
warning.
19. The organizers reserve the right right to refuse admission to person or persons who have violated any of
the above rules at any recognized NDCA event.
20. These rules and regulations may be amended at the discretion of the organizers. Any changes will be

Hotel Accommodations
For those of you planning to stay at the Hotel, but not saying on package, we have reserved a block of rooms at
Tropicana at the rate of $99.00 on Friday (plus taxes and surcharges) and $189.00 on Saturday (plus taxes and
surcharges). If you are not on a package, please make your reservations directly with the Hotel at (800) 247-
8767 by May 9th and tell them you are with the American Star Ball to receive the group rate. The group rate will
only be available until May 9, or until our block is sold out, whichever happens first. Late reservations
may not receive the discount and you may be charged the regular hotel room rate at that time.
1. Assume all risks of bodily injury (including death) and property damage inherent in
attending this event.
2. Release and hold harmless American Star Ball, LLC; Susan Ardary; Roxanne Ardary;
Camille Kravets; and/or the National Dance Council of America, Inc. from all liability to me,
my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin, and against any claim or cause of
action which I or anyone claiming by, through or under me, may at any time have against those
hereby release, arising out of bodily injury (including death or damage), loss or theft of articles
suffered by me while attending this event.
3. Consent to the use and release of his/her name and likeness to be used in photographs,
television filming and recording of the event used in connection with the television broadcast,
exhibition, distribution or promotion of the event in any manner and by any means, now or in
the future by American Star Ball, LLC. and /or its parent, related, affiliated or subsidiary
companies; Susan Ardary; Roxanne Ardary; Camille Kravets; or the National Dance Council of
America, Inc.*
* If any person has an objection to being video taped or the possibility of being seen on these
tapes or in any publicity trailers or other use of his or her picture, please notify the organizers of
this event in writing thirty days prior to the commencement. Failure to notify will be considered
as permission granted.
All persons attending this event, whether as spectators or as competitors or as officials or guests of the
organizer, shall be bound by both the National Dance Council of America, Inc. rules, as well as, the
American Star Ball Rules and Regulations, and by participating in this event, automatically become
obligated to adhere to them.
