Cyber Safety Tips

Children use a variety of online services, and each of these services can have different
safety concerns. However, there are some basic tips which you can employ no matter how
your children use the Internet.
 Keep the computer in a high-traffic area of your home; observe frequently.
 Establish limits for which online sites children may visit and for how long.
 Remember that Internet technology can be mobile, so make sure to monitor cell phones, gaming
devices, and laptops.
 Surf the Internet with your children and let them show you what they like to do online.
 Know who is connecting with your children online and set rules for social networking, instant
 messaging, emailing, online gaming, and using webcams.
 Continually dialogue with your children about online safety; Encourage them to tell a trusted adult,
be honest, and assure them you will help them to stay safe no matter what.
 Frequently, on a habitual basis, check the contents of your child’s internet usage.

A Message from Ms. Dawkins about GRIT

This month we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dedication to justice and equality in the
face of adversity and those who did not share in his dream. He did not give up on spreading his
message to everyone. To those who fought with violence, he met them with peaceful, non-violent
protests. We are discussing that what he used to face all of his obstacles was GRIT.
Bowen students are learning to be like Dr. King. They have to show GRIT and determination if they
want to reach their goals. No matter what obstacles they face, they must continue to work toward
what they want. If their goal is to get a good grade on a test, they must show GRIT and focus on
studying. If their goal is to get better in their sport, they must show GRIT and practice. They learn
best by example so let’s continue to model GRIT for our students to help them succeed in their
dreams.

Valentine's Day Celebration

We will be having our Valentine's Day celebration
on Friday, February 12. Similar to fall parties, this
will be a simple party with teachers and students.
All students will have the opportunity to make
cards for their classmates, but if your student is
planning to purchase Valentine cards and/or can-
dy, please send them to school no later than
Wednesday, February 10. This will allow the

It is VERY IMPORTANT that your students’ items
have their names inside them.
We want to make sure you get them back if they
are left behind.

student for winter, please contact the Bowen
