Christ Has Come in Many Forms
and On Many Occasions:
Our Lord has had many appearings. We’ve limited Him to two
because of our unscriptural terms “first & second coming.” God’s
Word speaks of the progressive revelation of Jesus Christ, not
numerically. The term “second coming” is as unfortunate as it is
unscriptural, implying only one coming of Christ so far.
The O.T. contains many comings of the Lord, beginning in
Eden.”...the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the
cool of the day.” (Gen. 3:8) Cain went out from the presence of
the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod.” (Gen. 4:16) Gen. 17:1
reads “The Lord appeared unto Abraham.” Gen. 17:22 reads,
“God left off talking to Abraham, and went up from him.” Gen.
18:1 we read, “And the Lord appeared unto him.” Gen. 18:33,
“The Lord went His way, as soon as He left communing with
Abraham.” Gen. 26:24 reads “the Lord appeared unto him (Isaac)
the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father:
fear not, for I am with thee.” Gen. 35:7 reads, “And he (Jacob)
built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there
God appeared unto him.” The Lord appeared unto Moses in the
burning bush (Ex. 3:15-16). After Moses had led the children of
Israel out of Egypt Christ walked among them in mighty mani-
festation of power and glory and provision, “for they drank of that
spiritual Rock which followed them: and that Rock was Christ”
(I Cor. 10:4). Again the Lord came to Israel in another form in
(Ex. 19:9,18,20): “And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto
thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak unto
thee... and Mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the
Lord descended upon it... and the Lord came down upon mount
Sinai, on the top of the Mount.” When the Tabernacle was erected
“the Lord appeared in the Tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud” (Deu.
31:15). In the days of Samuel the prophet “the Lord appeared
... in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh”
(I Sam.. 3:21). In II Chr.. 3:1 the “Lord appeared unto David...
in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of
Ornan the Jebusite.” In I Kings 3:5 the Lord appeared to
Solomon. Even when Israel exclaims, “The Lord hath appeared
of old unto me, saying, Yea I have loved thee with an everlasting
love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jer. 31:3)
At Pentecost Christ came as the COMFORTER John. 14:16-20
Hosea. 6:3 and James 5:7-8 He comes as the RAIN.
Malichi 3:1-3 He comes as REFINER’S FIRE and FULLER’S SOAP.
Malichi 4:2 He comes as the SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS ARISING.
Matthew 16:27 He comes WITH HIS ANGELS.
Matthew 24:27 He comes as LIGHTNING.
Matthew 25:6 He comes as the BRIDEGROOM.
Matthew 25:31-34 He comes as KING.
Mark 13:26 He comes with CLOUDS.
John 14:18 He comes TO HIS SAINTS.
Philemon 3:20-21 He comes in RESURRECTION POWER.
I Thes. 4:16-17 He comes IN THE AIR.
II Thes. 1:7-8 He comes in FLAMING FIRE.
II Thes. 1:10 He comes IN HIS SAINTS.
I Peter 5:4 He comes as the CHIEF SHEPHERD.
Jude 14 He comes WITH’HIS SAINTS.
Jude 14 & 15 He comes in JUDGMENT.
Revelation 16:15 He comes as a THIEF.
Revelation 19:11 & 14 He comes on a WHITE HORSE.
Revelation 22:12 He comes WITH REWARDS.
Revelation 22:16 and 2:28 He comes as the MORNING STAR.
He also comes with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, with
the trump of God; He comes to the Mount of Olives; His
temple...
The “coming” of Christ is many different manifestations, not a
single event. To many He is only Saviour, they never seek a more
intimate relationship with Him. To others He appears as Chief
Shepherd and Bridegroom. Hearing His voice, being moved by
His love, and following on to know Him in deeper. To others He
comes as a Thief, uninvited and unannounced, unexpectedly
breaking up their lifestyle or religious games. To others He ap-
pears as Fire, consuming their hay, wood, and stubble, eliminat-
ing all that is self and not of God. In the O.T., the rabbis were of-
ten confused by the seeming contradictions in the descriptions
of the Messiah. Some passages described Him as a Suffering
Servant, in others He was as a Conqueror and King. They sur-
mised that two Messiahs were coming.
We’ll never thoroughly comprehend Christ’s presence, His unveil-
ing, or His manifestation until we understand these wonderful truths
in terms of His progressive revelation. These word pictures help us
understand more clearly the revealing of Christ and what it means
to all of creation. This is what the Kingdom of God is all about, the
progressive revelation of Jesus Christ.
The Word “Second” Never Occurs With a
Word That Can be Translated “Coming.”:
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto
the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Mat. 24:27
We which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall
not prevent them... 1 Thes. 4:15
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall
consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the
brightness of His coming. 2 Thes. 2:8

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.
Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the
earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and
latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the com-
ing of the Lord draweth nigh. James 5:7-8
The Words Translated
“Coming” and Their Meaning:
PAROUSIA Occurs 24 times in the N.T. It comes from the verb
PAREMI meaning “at hand,” “to be present.” The noun signifies
“Presence.” The verb emphasizes the actual personal presence of
the one who comes. “Be patient unto the COMING (presence)
of the Lord” James 5:7. PAROUSIA never indicates the act of
coming or the arrival of a person, but the presence of one who
has already arrived.
APOKALUPSIS Comes from the verb APOKALUPTO mean-
ing “to uncover”, “unveil,” and stresses the appearing or revela-
tion of one by means of an uncovering or unveiling. It is the dis-
closure of one who has been hidden under cover. “Be sober, and
hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at
the REVELATION (unveiling) of Jesus Christ.” I Peter 1:13
EPIPHANEIA Is found 6 times in the N.T. It comes from a verb
which signifies “to shine upon,” “bring to light,” “to appear,” “to
manifest.” The noun is “manifestation,” “brightness.” It is like the
appearance out of darkness of a star that has been there all day,
unseen and unperceived, and suddenly manifesting at night. It
is used of the glory or majesty that is revealed by the coming of
the Lord.
PHANEROO Means to render apparent or make manifest, not
necessarily a visible presence, but a perception. “When He shall
appear (become apparent), we shall be like Him.” I John 3:2
ERCHOMAI Is used to indicate the actual act of coming, not,
as with PAROUSIA, the presence of one who has arrived, but
the event of coming. “Behold, HE COMETH (is in the act of
coming) with clouds.” Rev. 1:7

HEKO O Stresses the point of arrival at a certain place, as I am here.
“Hold fast till I COME (to you)” Rev. 2:25

Feast of Tabernacles = Harvest Complete - Fullness
Christ to be revealed in us:
When Jesus reveals Himself at the end of this present age, those
counted worthy (2 Thes. 1:5,11; Luke 21:36) will become like
Him; the manifested Sons of God. (Rom. 8)
But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of
the LORD. Numbers 14:21
As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satis-
fied, when I awake, with thy likeness. Ps. 17:15
When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.

The Day of The Lord
For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is
proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall

Daniel in the Lions Den (Dan 6:10-23)
10) Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went
into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber to-
ward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and
prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. 11)
Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and mak-
ing supplication before his God. 12) Then they came near, and
spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou
not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of
any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be
cast into the den of lions?
The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the
law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13) Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel,
which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not
thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh
his petition three times a day. 14) Then the king, when he heard
these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart
on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of
the sun to deliver him.
15) Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the
king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is,
That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be
changed.
16) Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and
cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto
Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver
thee.
17) And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the
den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the sig-
net of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concern-
ing Daniel. 18) Then the king went to his palace, and passed the
night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought be-
fore him: and his sleep went from him.
19) Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste
unto the den of lions. 20) And when he came to the den, he cried with
a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel,
O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest
continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21) Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. 22) My
God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that
they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was
found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23) Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded
that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was
taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon
him, because he believed in his God.
