REFLECTION ON THE SHOEBOXKIT

By Nurul Ainaa Nadia Bt Mohd Reduzan I chose the topic of the Magic of Battery to a demonstration in a class .I chose this topic because personally , I love learning physic especially when it is comes to electric . I mean , the fascinating thing about electric is you can¶t saw them , but they are really exist. Teaching this topic to a Year 2 student would be difficult if we just teach them in expository approach because it is beyond their imagination . In facts, they need a concrete material to be presented in a class to make their understanding deeper. So, the demonstration would be just nice to be presented to them in a way to emphasizes on the idea of how to make a complete circuit Before the demonstration , I had thought many idea of the demonstration about the battery. But , it comes out to be out of the syllabus . I had even thought about the discrepant event of using a dynamo and transformer which is totally not suitable with their learning outcomes . Actually they are just learn science as the basic knowledge that the environment around them involve with science . But , I and my partner nearly failed to find a good activity to make our demonstration. At the beginning , we just chose the activity by using the normal battery and a bulb . But, it turns out to be dull ! There is no magic shown . So , later my really brilliant partner ,Zhafrin invent a complete circuit and change the bulb with the pencil lead. And , of course, to make a magic we need the bigger volts to make the lead to light up. The 6V battery had cost RM9.00 per one and the total battery we use is three . We have done many trials before the demonstration , just to make sure that the demonstration to success . After many trials , we are success to make a real demonstration in front of the class . The strength of our activity is we are not copying from the activity that are done in the school , the idea is our original idea and we modifies it according to the learning outcomes . Furthermore , our activity also involve some of the discrepant event that leaves the student with interest .The most important is, the activity are just follow of the syllabus in the school but the ways we show them are different.

everyone have chance to observe the demonstration. Because . Plus .However.Besides. As the conclusion . to motivate student to learn science is just by making your lesson enjoyable and interesting . our leads can light up 2-3 second which is very short time to amaze the student. . So . for my view. Although that this task are difficult to manage but with the help of my lecturer and partners . The clips wire should be change to a smaller size to reduce the resistance as to generates effective current from the energy source . As the result . our activity contain many limitation . The students are advice not to touch the lead because the lead are hot and safety must be taken . Our limitation of these shoe box kit can be corrected by some of the modification be made . The students might be boring to wait what is going to happen. you may asked question about their prior knowledge of the battery. this activity requires a few minutes to observe the change. you have to make sure that there is no moving air around because it can cause the lead very slow to light up. On the other hand. this activity cannot be conducted in a large number of student . In addition . the demonstration of our group are success . we can switch the lead with a thicker one to make the time to light up more longer. during that time . the shoebox kit demonstration had helps us understand to construct the idea in student mind in the inquiry approach . The demonstration cannot be seen in a far distant so the student are asked to gather in front .
