1 Glossary
administration rights
The level of security that determines whether you can administrate
Polestar or not.
aggregated value
A value that has been created using aggregation methods (None,
Count, Sum, Min, Max, and Average) during the Universe design.
The value is applied to a measure.
analysis type
A set of visualizations for viewing your data to perform analysis. For
example, a comparison analysis type is used for viewing the
differences between values.
Authentication Type
The verification of the identity of a user and the user's eligibility to
access an object. Such an example is Windows NT Authentication.
breadcrumb
A textual description of your exploration.
breakdown
A list within the Explore: tab that corresponds to a dimension. The
list is used with other Breakdown list and allows you to focus upon
a dimension or measure. Selection of the list changes the
visualization.
category facet
A type of facet available to you within the Explore: tab. Category
facets are grouped and allow you to select categories and their
values. You can filter your data further with category facets. A
category facet can be suggested or selected.
charttype
A chart that is categorized under analysis type. For example, the
comparison analysis type includes a vertical bar chart.
CMS Add-On
The necessary components that are added to the CMS (Central
Management Server) during the installation of Polestar.
comparison analysis type
An analysis type used for viewing the differences between values
via a chart, such as a vertical bar chart.
contribution analysis type
suggested facet
A category facet that is available to you for navigation. It corresponds
to the objects used within your Information Space. They contain
values that you have not selected but possibly are what you are
looking for.
tab
A navigational pane that contains an individual Polestar subject
matter (such as Administration, Search Results). They are used with
other tabs and you can switch between them via a mouse click. Only
one tab can be active at a time.
tooltip
A small pop-up window with descriptive text.
trend analysis type
An analysis type used for viewing trends in your data.
Universe
An abstraction of a data source that presents data to users in
non-technical terms.
value
A measure value within a facet. For example, $10,000 is a possible
value within the Year facet for the 2007 label.
visualization
The method of representing raw data so certain patterns are
noticeable. For example, a chart, or a table.
