PASTORAL MINISTRY EXAMINATIONS QUESTION 7. GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING USING THE DIFFERENT TEACHING AIDS E.G.

ILLUSTRATIONS; DRAW UP AN OUTLINE ON HOW TO EFFECTIVELY WIN A SOUL. SOUL WINNING OUTLINE.

1. Start a conversation. The first step to take whilst embarking on soul winning is
to start a conversation. A kind smile, a pleasant disposition and a compliment is a sure way to break the ice and set the ball rolling. Comments on current affairs in the country or abroad such as politics and sports would also lead to a conversation.

2. Lead the conversation to the subject of Christ. Leading a conversation to
Christ is actually quite easy. You would most probably elicit a consensual response when you start to talk about all the evil in the country. Virtually everybody has some perception or the other of a supreme being or higher power. Identify this as God and state how wonderful it would be to have His favour at all times.

3. Show the need for salvation by highlighting its benefits. These benefits could
be easily distilled from the tenets of the gospel as taught in the School of Disciples.

4. Lead the subject to salvation. This would necessarily follow from the above. A
clarification of the requirement of salvation as specifically stated in Romans 10: 9-10 is required here to put paid to existing misinformation about salvation. This clarification almost always leads to a positive response.

5. Put the subject in church. A soul is not won until the soul is involved in soul
winning. No mother gives birth to a child and leaves the child at the maternity hospital. It is necessary that the soul that is won is nourished in the word for spiritual growth and development.

6. Get the subject involved in the cell system. This is essential because the cell is
the church’s main evangelical unit. It is here that the person is taught by doing how to get personally involved in soul winning.

7. Get the subject enrolled in the School of Disciples.
8. Lead and train the subject to be a soul winner too.
